The successful applicants will be expected to assist in the running of cardiology services within King’s College Hospital, including in-patient and out-patient management of cardiac patients with a variety of conditions. They will work at registrar level but will not be expected to participate in the cardiology registrar on call rota. There may be an opportunity to participate in out of hours sessions according to the experience and skills of the individual/or progression during the duration of the post.
Whilst this is not a research fellow posts, there will be opportunities to get involved with commercial and non-commercial cardiac research.
Experience in cardiology at core level is essential and experience in echocardiography would be an advantage.
The successful applicant will be responsible to the Clinical Director for Cardiology.
Main duties of the job
The clinical duties of the post will be the day to day care of patients admitted to the cardiology wards including admission, clinical examination, co-ordination of investigation of elective and emergency cardiac patients and liaison with senior colleagues. The post will also include cardiology ward cover (including specialist consultant led ward rounds), participation in outpatient clinics and supervision of non-invasive investigations such as exercise tolerance and TILT tests and offers excellent exposure to cardiology in a tertiary setting. The appointed post holder will be provided comprehensive training in transthoracic echo, relevant to their level of expertise. Training in angiography is not provided but exposure to the cath lab and assistance with cases is encouraged according to current level of training.
This post does not come with any out of hours commitment. Opportunities to take part in the on call rota may be available and will depend on the skills/experience of the individual. This is an ideal post for those wishing to pursue a career in cardiology and have completed their core general medical training but require more cardiology experience prior to obtaining a training number.
