Job overview

As a registered nurse on the Victoria and Albert Ward, you will be caring for cardiovascular patients and working with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to provide high-quality care. We are an enthusiastic group with a strong team spirit, united by a common goal. We are looking for an experienced nursing with significant experience in an acute hospital setting.  

You will be responsible for delivering person-centred nursing care, ensuring our patients have a positive experience during their stay with us.

We are supported by an energetic Practice Development Nurse (PDN) team that promotes continuous career development. We offer a robust education plan and a variety of courses to support staff growth.

The Victoria and Albert Ward works closely with the Victoria and Albert High Dependency Unit (HDU) and the Cardiac Recovery Unit.

Main duties of the job

  • Be a safe and effective practitioner, able to provide high-quality nursing care to patients and appropriate support to relatives.
  • Work with guidance within a multidisciplinary team to provide continuous care to a designated group of patients from admission to discharge.
  • Supervise and support junior staff and learners, as appropriate.
  • Maintain personal professional development with appropriate support.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • To practise in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and adhere to its principles at all times.
  • To assess, plan, and evaluate individualised programmes of care for patients in partnership with the patient, their carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • To support and assist in the health education of patients and their families.
  • To ensure care is delivered in accordance with the latest evidence-based practice guidelines.
  • To ensure that patients and their next of kin are kept informed, as appropriate and in line with the patient's consent.
  • To maintain up-to-date and comprehensive records of care, in accordance with NMC standards and legal requirements.
  • To maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • To support junior colleagues, students, and visitors to the department.
  • To demonstrate effective communication and customer care skills with patients and their relatives/carers, serving as a positive role model for nurses and other staff.
  • To act in a professional manner at all times.
