Job overview

Come and join one of the world leading centres for diabetic foot disease and work with our passionate and experienced diabetes team at King’s.

We are looking for a Consultant with specialist interest in diabetic foot disease to join our growing multi-disciplinary team.

The role will include developing our multi-morbid complex diabetes service to deliver holistic care with multi-specialist input.

The diabetes department has multiple opportunities for research and career development within our supportive team.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join three other Diabetic Foot Consultant colleagues in a rotational manner of working. This rotation will include dedicated time within the Mike Edmond’s Foot Unit (MEFU) and inpatient diabetic foot team, where they will lead the multi-specialty and multi-disciplinary team with orthopaedic, vascular, plastics and microbiology colleagues.

There will be a period on Oliver ward, providing general medical care to our 20-30 bedded ward, and up to 10 dedicated diabetic foot beds, as well as associated weekend on-call working. Lastly the rotation will include complex diabetes clinics both within the hospital and community settings.

There will be opportunity to develop the service with support from the Clinical Lead and wider team, as well as develop research interests and mentor the multiple trainees from across disciplines that are involved in our work.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Trust is recognised internationally for its work in liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences, cardiac, haemato-oncology, fetal medicine, stroke, major trauma, and Emergency Department.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.

Training and Experience

  • Wide experience in all aspects of Diabetes, culminating in award of CCT or equivalent
  • Specialist training in Diabetes
Desirable criteria
  • Sub-specialist experience in Diabetic foot

Administration

Essential criteria
  • Experience in day-to-day organisation of Diabetes services in a busy Teaching Hospital
  • Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
Desirable criteria
  • Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes

Management and Leadership

Essential criteria
  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable criteria
  • Management course and/or qualification

Audit and Quality Improvement

Essential criteria
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit
  • Must have undertaken and completed audit projects
