Job overview
The post holder will be part of the team providing a patient focussed maintenance service on the day shift .The post holder will carry out the repair, maintenance or installation of all plant, equipment, and engineering services. This will include Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), testing and calibration, fault finding, emergency response, defect correction and minor works. The post holder will be required to liaise with Estates Officers, other maintenance staff, Heads of Departments, Ward Managers and other clinical staff.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit an experienced Maintenance Tradesperson to be based at our Denmark Hill site.
The role will involve routine maintenance, installation and repair work on a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be part of the team delivering a patient focused maintenance service across the Kings Estate. To assist all other trades as applicable and as a part of a maintenance team communicate technical issues to other maintenance staff. To assemble, install and commission new works and equipment as required. Maintain and repair the trusts properties and equipment in accordance with Health Technical Memoranda and Health Building Notes. To ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and local operation procedure codes. To ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity. Have a good understanding of computers, and in particular standard Microsoft Office Tools, knowledge and experience with BMS and planned maintenance systems will be an advantage. To co-operate with management in creating an integrated estates service. To ensure the completion and update of maintenance records. To instruct other maintenance staff and fully managed service contractors (where appropriate) in all aspects of their work.
To comply with statutory and other relevant requirements related to Health & Safety legislation and HTM safe systems of work.
To attend training sessions where applicable in the use of all safety PPE and to follow all safety procedures.
Draw the attention of management to any defects affecting Health & Safety.
Undertake acceptance testing of new equipment and advice on suitability for safe use.
To support risk management for the department by identifying, implementing and maintaining controls and actions where necessary

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised and registered engineering apprenticeship. or relevant experience
- NVQ’s City & Guilds Qualification (Mechanical/Electrical)
Desirable criteria
- Additional Trade Relevant Certification e.g. Pressure Systems, Fixed Wiring
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience Post Apprenticeship
- Good knowledge in at least one of the following areas. Steam Systems, HVAC, Electrical Distribution
- Must be able to demonstrate suitable post apprenticeship experience in non-routine maintenance of complex engineering plant and equipment with a broad understanding of other trade disciplines.
Desirable criteria
- Previous hospital maintenance experience
- Knowledge of operating a computerised Building Management System
- Knowledge of NHS Technical Standards and HTM’s
