The Head of Learning and Talent will take a Trust wide lead on the delivery of the strategic and operational objectives to embed a culture of learning into the organisation.
Main duties of the job
The Head of Learning and Talent will take a Trust wide lead on the delivery of the strategic and operational objectives to embed a culture of learning into the organisation. The post holder will lead a team to enable the Trust to develop a Learning and Talent strategy and work with professions within the Trust to expand our Learning and Talent offer, map career pathways and maximise the utilisation of the Apprenticeship Levy. The post holder will be responsible for the management of the Apprenticeship team, the Work Based Learning team and the Work Experience team, and they will lead on areas of Widening Participation. They will also look after the development, roll out and ongoing development of Trust wide Talent Management and Succession Planning, including the operational delivery of a Talent Management Board. They will need the drive, ambition and hands-on experience to successfully lead the development and delivery of talent strategies across the Trust.
This role will expand the tangible benefits of Apprenticeships to develop and upskill new and existing staff, build career pathways and work with workforce planning to help to address skills shortages across the workforce.

They will enable the Trust to support widening participation work and increase our recruitment pathways for local schools, colleges and job centres. Managing the Work experiences programme and well as multiple other vehicles to enable people to enter the trust. They will also contribute to our EDI strategy and ambitions to become an employer of choice for our local community.
The post holder will also hold overall responsibility for the non-medical education commissioning and funding for CPD and workforce development. Chairing the CPD funding panel.
The post holder will work closely with the ICB and NHS England, to ensure King’s is considered an employer of choice in the local area
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Master’s degree/Professional management Qualification or equivalent level of experience in senior management role
- Project Management training, qualification or experience
Desirable criteria
- Coaching Qualification
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of dealing with Board or Executive level colleagues within the organisation and across a network
- Detailed knowledge and experience of Apprenticeships and the Apprenticeship Levy
- Understanding of public sector procurement processes.
- Understanding of responsibilities of apprentices under health care governance
- Capable of leading a high performing learning & development function.
- Experience in the roll out, design and delivery of Talent management
- Operational & financial management of education services
- Experienced in developing, writing and launching strategies with supporting implementation and engagement plans
- Experience of administering large education or training contracts
- Experience with Work Experience and widening Participation
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within the Healthcare sector
