Job overview
The successful post holder will input into the delivery and operationalisation of an integrated model of psychological care for children and young people with medical needs. The post holder will provide specialist screening, assessment, treatment, planning, implementation and monitoring of outcomes.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and flexible psychologist to become part of our paediatric psychology team serving a diverse inner-city population. Specialist paediatric and clinical health psychology across all ages has a long tradition at King's College Hospital, and you will be joining a group of psychology and mental health professionals who are dedicated and supportive.
Main duties of the job
To provide a comprehensive clinical psychology service to children, young people and their families under the Complications of Excess Weight Service (CEW) at King's College Hospital and Barts Health NHS Trust.
- Assessment, formulation, evidence-based treatment and implementation and monitoring of outcomes, including cognitive and neurodevelopmental evaluation.
- Together with senior colleagues, to ensure the systematic provision of a highly specialist psychology service, with onwards referrals according to local pathways.
- Ensuring that psychological wellbeing is being considered in the planning and delivery of multidisciplinary care to all patients.
- To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
- To provide clinical supervision and consultation to non-psychology colleagues as appropriate.
- To undertake and contribute to service evaluation, audit and research.
- To work as an autonomous professional within BPS and HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will provide a comprehensive clinical psychology service to children, young people and their families under the Complications of Excess Weight Service (CEW) at King's College Hospital and Barts Health NHS Trust.
- You will develop close links with multidisciplinary colleagues in the CEW/wider network.
- You will ensure the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service to children and young people.
- You will deliver the aims of CEW in collaboration with all members of the MDT.
- You will provide consultation and support to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care by all members of the treatment team, both within the hospital and the wider healthcare team in the community.
- You will deliver a range of appropriate staff support methods including teaching, clinical case discussion, clinical supervision in either group or individual format, according to need.
We are looking for a skilled and experienced clinical psychologist who shows the ability to build collaborative working relationships with colleagues from different disciplines and services.
- The appointee will have experience in working in the health area, ideally with children and/or young adults.
- Experience and knowledge around supporting those with an intellectual disability will be an advantage
- Experience in sharing psychological knowledge and understanding with colleagues via teaching, training and multidisciplinary meetings will be required.
- Experience of working with children and young people is essential and we would welcome applicants with relevant experience in weight management, eating disorders, a health setting, health promotion and prevention setting, or any experience in a setting where behaviour change work is a focus.

Quals, Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology that has been accepted by the HCPC for purposes of professional registration.
- Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities. This may have been gained through work, research, volunteering and / or lived experience.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and holding team roles.
- Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate.
Desirable criteria
- Additional training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice–based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate Diploma
- Experience of working with intellectual disability
- Experience of working with children with chronic health problems and their families.
