Responsible to: Ms Nicola Lau, Consultant Ophthalmologist 

Accountable to: Dr Konstantinos Bouras, Clinical Director Moorfields Croydon

The Post 

The content of the Clinical Fellowship in the Corneal & Urgent Care will be split across a variety of clinics at Moorfields Croydon. It will also include 1 cataract training theatre per week, all clinical sessions will be at the Moorfields Croydon site in South London. 

Main duties of the job

 Main responsibilities of this role include:

  • Working within the Corneal, Urgent Care and Cataract service at Moorfields Croydon site
  • Undertake Administrative roles as directed by consultant body
  • Participation in regular clinical and research meetings
  • Active participation in ongoing research projects
  • Participation in departmental teaching activities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

May vary, as outlined above, but will also include:

  • 7 clinical sessions split between Corneal, Urgent Care and the Cataract service , 2 research / study / admin sessions and 1 cataract training theatre in a Monday to Friday working week. 
  • Attendance at regular Corneal Fellow Virtual Teaching Sessions (typically 3-5, 1-hour sessions per week)
  • SWL on call rota 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCOphth or FRCOphth or equivalent ophthalmic qualification
  • Full GMC Registration (with a Licence to Practice or be eligible to apply
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in Cataract surgery
  • Completed or be near to completing Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmology
Desirable criteria
  • Research
  • Audit
  • Publication experience in ophthalmic plastic surgery

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills
  • Good organisational skills
Desirable criteria
  • Use of database systems

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Broad knowledge of ophthalmology
  • Completed or be near to completing Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmology
