Divisional Imaging Lead - the North Division

As the divisional imaging lead for the North Division, you will be a self-motivated, pro-active individual with both excellent time management and organisational skills. You will be responsible for the management of the medical imaging team to provide high quality Diagnostic Imaging Services at Moorfield's’ North Division including the Virtual Clinics. The role encompasses supporting junior staff to develop skills and help to embed a continuous quality improvement culture across the service. The post holder will act as an exemplar and professional role-model in embracing core values of, excellence, equity and kindness. As a leader you will work both clinically and managerially to undertake day to day supervision of the team working with the Heads of Departments to ensure safe staffing across all sites. For the 0.6 WTE portion of this role, you are expected to support and manage the technician team at the Brent Cross Diagnosing Hub. The remaining 0.4 WTE of this role will be dedicated to supporting the education and development of technician staff across the rest of the North division.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

 

LEADERSHIP

 

-         Lead, manage and motivate imaging staff, ensuring appropriate management structures, policies and practices are in place to achieve high levels of performance.

 

-         Provide professional and personal support and assistance to all staff within the division.

 

-         Work with the matrons, head of nursing and clinical directors to support the delivery of safe, efficient, and effective imaging care.

 

-         Troubleshoot and escalate any capacity and demand concerns to matrons and department managers.

 

-         Liaise and work collaboratively with other stakeholders e.g. consultants to effectively manage the day to day running of service.

 PLANNING AND ORGANISATION

 

-       Contribute towards the organisation and management of the rosters for the imaging pathway including the adult and paediatric medical photography, ensuring there is sufficient skill mix of staff allocation at all responsible sites.

 

-       Contribute towards the management and coordination of annual leave ensuring this is fairly distributed and service provision is maintained, as well as all statutory and mandatory training and ensure all imaging staff are fully compliant.

 

-         To lead in the planning of up-coming activities and service improvements across the north division, escalating to the matrons and/or department managers when required.

 

  PHYSICAL AND CLINICAL SKILLS

 

-         To be highly skilled in the full range of routine and specialised imaging techniques, with expert knowledge of Ophthalmic anatomy and diseases. Able to perform a range of clinical, diagnostic, and imaging examinations including:

·       Retinal imaging and image analysis using current standard techniques.

·       Slit lamp imaging of anterior segment of the eye using tropical stains.

·       Clinical imaging of the external eye and Ocular Adnexa.

·       OCT Imaging.

·       Anterior Segment Photography.

·       Retcam photography for Retinopathy of prematurity screening.

·       B scan ultrasound. 

·       Instillation of dilating drops.

 

-       To provide effective communication skills to convey complex information regarding diagnostic testing to patients, relatives and carers.

 

-       To provide a range of digital angiography and imaging procedures requiring expertise underpinned by theoretical knowledge of the principles underlying fundus photography, digital angiography, autofluorescence imaging and optical coherence tomography.

 

To make judgements involving a range of facts which require analysis and comparison to optimise images obtained during digital angiography (e.g. strategies to overcome small

-       pupils, eye movement, cataract, blinking or a combination of these during fluorescein angiography).

 

-       To lead and be directly responsible for the safe use of expensive and highly complex imaging equipment.

 

-       To follow established departmental policies for imaging techniques and be guided by standard operating procedures and good practice but be able to justify the need to vary from SOP when necessary.

 

-       To work within scope of practice.

 

-       To provide computer graphic services and operate several information systems relating to imaging.

 

-       To conduct simple maintenance and calibration of equipment and provide technical advice to clinicians.
