If yes, then Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust welcomes applications for the role of MSc module lead on the UCL MSc Orthoptic (pre-reg) programme, working within a multi-disciplinary team. 

The MSc Orthoptics programme has been developed by University College London (UCL), Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO) and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in a joint education partnership. The post holder will hold an honorary contract with UCL IoO and be employed by Moorfields Orthoptic Service. 

Main duties of the job

This is a unique opportunity to support the MSc Orthoptics (pre-reg) programme alongside UCL Institute of Ophthalmology suite of ophthalmic sub-specialty taught programmes. The module lead will play a key role in the development, management and delivery of the programme in conjunction with the Deputy and Programme Director.

The module lead will be responsible for Orthoptic module III which introduces learners to diagnosis and management of incomitant strabismus and it's management.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder should:

  • Ensure the effective and efficient delivery, assessment and on-going development of the module, in compliance with UCL procedures and regulations
  • Have excellent communication and time management skills to ensure subject matter experts delivering module content are scheduled and supported accordingly
  • Be familiar with UCL and the Institute's guidelines, particularly those pertaining to staff and student welfare 
  • Bring to the attention of the programme leads any concerns relating to the students' academic work or general welfare.

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of ophthalmology
  • extensive experience in a hospital setting or core skills and sub-speciality clinics
  • assessment experience in a clinical or academic setting
Desirable criteria
  • experience of curriculum development
  • experience of developing protocols and competencies

CPD

Essential criteria
  • evidence beyond of CPD of professional development
  • evidence of delivering clinical education
Desirable criteria
  • experience of research and student supervision

Registration

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registered as an Orthoptist
  • Recognised degree in Orthoptics with considerable post graduate experience
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification or working towards obtaining a recognised qualification or equivalent experience
