Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive – Full time permanent appointment, Agenda for Change band 7, with Inner London HCAS

The North London NHS Foundation Trust (NLFT) formally came into being on 1 November 2024. This followed several years where the former Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and former Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust had been working together as the North London Mental Health Partnership. We have an exciting future ahead, with the proposed acquisition of the nearby Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust into the NLFT in 2026.

We are now looking to appoint a full time Executive Assistant to support Jinjer Kandola MBE, the Trust’s Chief Executive, based in the Trust Headquarters at St Pancras Hospital in Camden, near to Kings Cross and St Pancras stations. The role is responsible for the provision of comprehensive, responsive, efficient and effective support to the Chief Executive. This will include diary coordination, corporate support, preparing and coordinating briefings, taking minutes, drafting correspondence and reports, business planning, administration support for major projects and leading on minor projects.

Main duties of the job

The role is responsible for the provision of comprehensive, responsive, efficient and effective support to the Chief Executive enabling them to focus on strategic issues affecting the Trust and the wider health economy. This will include diary coordination, corporate support, preparing and coordinating briefings, taking minutes, drafting correspondence and reports, business planning, administration support for major projects and leading on minor projects.

Working for our organisation

We serve a very diverse population of 1.8 million people across the London Boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington. We have a combined annual budget of £670 million and employ 6,000 staff.

We provide all age acute and community mental health services across North London, as well as some services regionally and nationally, including personality disorders, children’s inpatient mental health services, inpatient eating disorders and a range of CQC Outstanding rated Forensic mental health services for people in the criminal justice system with serious mental health conditions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Requirements

·       Demonstrate significant experienced in working at Board level, being able to communicate with senior members of staff, external stakeholders, varied professional groups, patients, carers, the public and regulators.

·       Minimum of five years in a senior administrative / EA role within a large complex NHS organisation or similar environment

·       Ability to plan and organise very senior staff diaries, meetings and take formal minutes 

·       Experience of working under pressure and to tight deadlines in a fast paced office environment

·       Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills

·       Excellent organisational and time management skills

·       Proven ability to work with autonomy and to exercise initiative and influence 

·       Ability to plan and organise own work to meet demanding deadlines to agreed standards

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • Educated to first degree level or equivalent level of working at a similar level in a specialist area
  • Evidence of continuous professional development

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a senior administrative within a large complex NHS or similar organisation
  • Experience of supporting senior staff at Board level
  • Experience of developing best practice systems and processes for running a busy and high profile corporate office
  • Experience of planning and organising work programmes and meetings, including taking senior level formal minutes and action tracking
  • Experience of working under pressure and to tight deadlines in a fast paced office environment
  • Experience of project management and work programmes , keeping track of progress of Executive Director’s objectives and providing challenge and support as required
Desirable criteria
  • An understanding of the key political and policy issues within the health service /local government and the implications for the Chair / Chief Executive

  • Highly developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with credibility at senior levels

  • Excellent practical experience in the use of the full suite of Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience of managing and continuously improving multiple and complex corporate office systems and processes
