Job overview
This post is for full time (1.0 WTE) Staff Psychiatrist within the Mood Disorders Research Clinic and has been created to support and develop clinical trial activity and research in mood disorders in the trust. The post is based at Regis Road, London, NW5 3EG, close to Camden Town and the major transport hubs of King’s Cross, St Pancras and Euston.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will play a key role in the treatment resistant depression research clinic at the North London NHS Foundation Trust. The clinic assesses patients with difficult to treat depression and manages their treatment during clinical research studies. It is part of a national network of research clinics supported by the NIHR funded Mental Health Mission. The post holder will be chiefly responsible for implementing clinical trials locally, including setting up files for bidding for trials; the collection and collating clinic data activity, routine data collection from patients, administrative support at the clinic and liaison with related clinical services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Research Duties
-    Support communication with industry and academic research and trial organizations and individuals
-    Support or lead development of academic research studies
-    Support assessment of proposed protocols for local implementation in the trust
-    Lead development of appropriate local standard operating procedures according to trial protocols including risk management
-    Close collaboration and integration with research delivery team
-    Devising and implementing administrative systems and procedures for collection and collation of clinic activity
-    Providing clinic activity information to funders
-    Setup of routine data collection from clinic attendances
-    Co-ordination of lived experience activity in the clinic
-    Manage communications with the Clinic Steering Group
Clinical Duties
-    Clinical responsibility for trial activities including 
o    Assessment of eligibility for trial participation according to trial protocol inclusion/exclusion criteria
o    Assessment of adverse events and reactions 
o    Management of adverse events and reactions as per trial protocols
-    Commitment to collaborative working, actively supporting and liaising with other health and social care professionals and agencies.
The post holder will work closely with the team leaders/managers and other MDT members. The postholder will be supervised on a regular basis by the lead consultant psychiatrist.

Education/Qualifications/Registration
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice.
 - Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent higher qualification in psychiatry
 - Registered with Royal College of Psychiatrists CPD programme and in good standing
 
Desirable criteria
- PhD or other relevant research qualification
 
Knowledge & Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge and observance of the requirements and duties of a doctor laid down by the GMC in Good Medical Practice.
 - Knowledge and observance of the requirements and duties of researchers as laid down by the NIHR in Good Clinical Practice.
 - Clinical knowledge of the full range mental disorders.
 - Clinical knowledge of the management of treatment-resistant mood disorders
 - Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding practices
 
Desirable criteria
- Experience in the assessment of complex clinical cases involving severe and enduring mental illness and significant risk histories and the ability to assertively engage and manage such cases.
 
Research
Essential criteria
- Interest in clinical research focused on clinical trials
 
Desirable criteria
- Experience undertaking clinical assessments in a clinical trial
 - Experience with clinical trials / CTIMPs
 - Experience with neuroscience / neuroimaging research
 - Experience with patient recruitment into trials
 
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English
 - Thoroughness and attention to detail in clinical matters
 - Sensitivity to needs of all patients and carers.
 - Sensitivity and awareness in clients and staff from different cultures, ethnicities, gender and sexual orientations.
 - Exceptional attention to meticulous data collection Understanding of the need of role of SoPs Analytical thinking
 - Excellent IT skills, including e.g. Excel
 - Ability to work in a team environment and to develop effective working relationships on an individual and multidisciplinary basis with all levels of staff.
 - Ability to take on the role and responsibilities of a Doctor within the team
 - Enthusiasm for the subject of psychiatry and willingness to share knowledge and experience
