North West London Pathology (NWLP) is an NHS pathology partnership joint venture between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. NWLP is modelled as a shared services organisation jointly owned by the three Trusts. The organisation is hosted by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and as the legal entity for NWLP our staff are employed by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

NWLP is based on a ‘hub and spoke’ structure; the majority of routine, specialist and non-urgent activity is centralised at our hub site at Charing Cross Hospital. Urgent tests required for immediate patient management and treatment are performed in 24/7 Essential Service Laboratories based on-site within the seven hospital sites in the group.

The partnership has created an innovative and sustainable service that delivers outstanding quality to users and patients alike. This innovative approach allows the service to better manage demand, standardise operations, improve value for money and make use of state-of-the-art technology.

Main duties of the job

As the Senior Finance Manager for NWLP you will:

  • Be the finance lead supporting business case developments and ensuring quantitative methodology of tracking deliverable, both financial and operational are identified.  
  • Drive Commercial awareness and key decision making.
  • Be the finance point of contact on key customer relationship(s) including reporting the monthly position of the account(s) as well as further development of relation(s) to progress development of core tools such as dashboard of performance for dissemination with core messaging to operational teams which will help underpin improvement in finance narrative to stakeholders
  • Be finance lead in supporting external national returns such as PQAD.
  • Be finance lead in supporting a bottom up detail cost per test project.
  • Develop the NWLP Capital plan and monitor delivery of the plan.Develop the NWLP Capital plan and monitor delivery of the plan.
  • Prepare NWLP Income Analysis including activity and billing reports, margin analysis and opportunity analysis.
  • Actively contribute to the development and improvement of the NWLP finance team and wider ICHT finance team
  • Be accountable to the Head of Finance for the adherence to Trust financial policies and procedures, statutory requirements and requirements from the Department of Health and NHSEI.
  • Support HoF objectives and where appropriate act as deputy for HoF.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Accounting skills including financial analysis, planning and option appraisal
  • Ability to solve complex and multi-dimensional issues
  • Able to produce reports using data that is comprehensive and meets the requirements of operational partner
  • Able to react quickly where decisions are required urgently

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • At least 3 years post-qualification experience
  • Financial modelling and translating complex data from various systems into a clear and comprehensive financial model
  • Experience of working with computerised financial systems
  • Experience of managing a team including objective setting, performance reviews and performance management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience and knowledge of the NHS including the financial and political agenda
  • Knowledge of NHS financial regime
