Biomedical Scientist - Infection and Immunity

Band 5 / Band 6

North West London Pathology (NWLP) is an NHS pathology partnership joint venture between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. NWLP is modelled as a shared services organisation jointly owned by the three Trusts. The organisation is hosted by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and as the legal entity for NWLP our staff are employed by Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

NWLP is based on a ‘hub and spoke’ structure; the majority of routine, specialist and non-urgent activity is centralised at our hub site at Charing Cross Hospital. Urgent tests required for immediate patient management and treatment are performed in 24/7 Essential Service Laboratories based on-site within the seven hospital sites in the group.

The partnership has created an innovative and sustainable service that delivers outstanding quality to users and patients alike. This innovative approach allows the service to better manage demand, standardise operations, improve value for money and make use of state-of-the-art technology.

Our values are to be patient-focused, collaborative, expert and caring.

Job overview

We are looking for an HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist to join our dedicated Team in the Infection & Immunity Laboratory on the Charing Cross Hospital site.

The laboratory offers the opportunity to work in a well-equipped environment with a high level of automation for Virology and Immunology testing and in this role, you'll be instrumental in maintaining and developing the high-quality services our laboratory provides, ensuring our clinical users receive the best care possible. You will also play a crucial role in maintaining our department's quality systems and maintaining UKAS accreditation.

Applications are sought from self-motivated individuals with relevant laboratory experience and we will be appointing this post at Band 6 if the successful applicant has completed the IBMS Specialist Diploma in the relevant discipline (Virology or Immunology).

We are committed to your personal and professional development and you will have opportunities to fulfil your potential with NWLP.

As this post is dual banded, appointment at Band 5 can be made with the post holder moving to a Band 6 Specialist BMS on completion of their Specialist Portfolio. Completion of the Portfolio is expected for this role.

A Trainee at Band 5 may also be considered if they are close to completion of the HCPC Registration Portfolio (once registered, to take on full responsibilities of the role, including the weekend rota).

Main duties of the job

Working for our organisation

Benefits include career development, flexible working, staff wellbeing programmes, staff awards and recognition scheme. We also have available benefits including Cycle to Work, car lease schemes, season ticket loan or membership options for onsite leisure facilities.
