Are you a passionate and experienced clinician looking for a new challenge in neurological rehabilitation? We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Advanced Specialist Therapist to lead our dynamic Community Neurorehabilitation Team.

As the Lead Clinician, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, person-centred rehabilitation across a variety of community settings. This is a dual-role position where you will not only lead the operational and clinical delivery of the service, but also maintain your own caseload of highly complex patients, using advanced clinical reasoning and specialist knowledge in neurorehabilitation.

Main duties of the job

To act as the lead therapy clinician for the Neurological rehabilitation team

Responsible for operational management and clinical leadership of therapists in delivery of high quality, client-focused, multi-disciplinary therapy

Works in conjunction with the service Lead and contributes to strategic planning and modernisation of services to clients

Endeavours to promote a learning culture of excellence across the Neurological rehabilitation team

Provides a highly specialist standard of therapy using highly developed clinical reasoning skills in the management of a clinical caseload as an autonomous practitioner

Act as a specialist resource providing support, advice, clinical expertise to other professionals, clinical and non-clinical staff with regards to client care

To be responsible for own personal professional development and keep abreast of new clinical practices in neurological rehabilitation and ensure that own CPD portfolio is maintained within Health professions council (HPC) guidelines

To ensure confidentiality in all matters relating to clients and information obtained during the course of employment

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide clinical daily operational management to the neurological rehabilitation team being responsible to the Service Lead.

To deputise for Service Lead as required

To coordinate staff activity to meet the demands of the service e.g. waiting list, clinical prioritisation

Demonstrate effective team management taking into account equal opportunities

To be responsible for and provide induction, daily supervision and coordination of locum staff, junior staff, therapy assistants and students within the neurological rehabilitation team as required

To ensure that appropriate skill mix within the team is regularly evaluated and maintained in consultation with the Service Lead

To be aware of the role of the neurological rehabilitation team in achieving local and national targets

To support the Service Lead in ensuring that staff implement policy and service development changes

To participate in policy and procedure development and develop care protocols for clients with a neurological condition

To be responsible for coordinating smooth running of the neurological rehabilitation team including cover arrangements for staff in conjunction with the Service Lead

To ensure the operation of the team reflects an agreed joint strategy with other services/agencies

To have responsibility for health, safety and welfare of self and others in the working environment , to follow safe working practices and to comply at all times with the organisation’s Health and Safety and Risk management policies and procedures

To be responsible for any organisational tasks related to the post

To ensure that all organisational policies and procedures are followed

To advise the Service Lead of service delivery issues including demand and capacity data, service and cost pressures

To deliver the operational standards and service outcomes agreed with service lead within the allocated financial budget

Maintain budgetary control and ensure astute and flexible utilisation of allocated financial resources to demonstrate value for money and high-quality patient care.

Ensure that Cost Improvement/Cash Releasing Efficiency measures as dictated by financial policies and standing financial instructions are met.

Act as an authorising signatory for the Neuro- rehabilitation team within limits agreed with the Service Lead; ensure that the Trust Standing Financial Instructions are adhered    to.

Manage resource utilisation whilst maintaining financial balance particularly in respect of Bank & Agency expenditure.

  • To identify and request purchase of physical assets within designated limit, ensuring budgetary limits are not exceeded

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses relevant to neurology, up to Master’s degree equivalent
  • Evidence of management skills obtained through experience or Qualification
  • Recognised Physiotherapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
  • Evidence of working at level commensurate with masters level
Desirable criteria
  • Non-Medical Prescriber / Independent Prescriber

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable/significant experience working with adult client group in neurorehabilitation / stroke
  • Experience of developing case-management skills in less experienced staff.
  • Experience of planning, organising and delivering training programmes to an organisation
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessment and risk management
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary diagnostic assessment

  • Professional/ Clinical knowledge acquired through training and practical experience
  • Excellent analytical and reflection skills – clinical reasoning
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of writing service policies / procedures / clinical pathways
  • Highly developed Negotiation and Problem solving Skills in complex situations and ability to facilitate these skills in others
