Job overview

The cardiology investigation unit (CIU) provides the trust with a comprehensive  range of cardiology investigations including:
 Bradycardia and cardiac resynchronisation therapy pacemaker implantation (at BGH only) occasionally here at the RFH we do implant devices but mainly on emergency cases ie: external permanent generator, follow up device clinics on both sides.
 ILR implants and follow ups.
 Internal cardiac defibrillator implantation and follow up (see first point)
 Routine electrocardiography & physiologist led exercise testing.
 Ambulatory Holter Monitoring fitting and analysis, BP monitoring.
 Cardiac catheterisation (PCI) within the newly opened double catheter laboratory including a 24-hour primary coronary intervention service (PPCI)
 Right/Left Heart study, Thrombectomy and EKOS

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to demonstrate expertise in the performance of unsupervised exercise testing, fitting/analysing ambulatory holter and blood pressure monitoring including performing ECGs. You will be able to work with minimal supervision in basic pacemaker follow up & cath lab procedures; and show willingness to employ high standards of skills in testing and reporting to achieve best quality patient care at all times.
Assist in the routine administration and organisation of the department, help provide support and carry out delegated organisational duties appropriate to the grade/level of the post-holder, as required. Contribute to the maintenance of standards and quality in service development by maintaining and developing your own professionalism and
skills and knowledge.

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) or degree level equivalent education plus extensive experience
  • Proficiency in CRM (primarily brady devices) checks with minimum supervision
  • Fully independent in the cath lab with minimum 1 year of oncall duties in the UK
Desirable criteria
  • Working towards BHRS/IBHRE/EHRA
  • ILS and willingness to complete ALS
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of non-invasive skills within the UK
  • Experience in cath lab including complex PCI with adjuncts within the UK
  • Experience in device implant and follow-up with minimal supervision within the UK
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with mentoring junior colleagues e.g. PTP/STP
