Job overview

Applications are invited for three substantive consultant positions, which require a  specialist interest in two or three of the following areas: Gynaecological pathology, Uropathology, gastrointestinal pathology, Thyroid pathology and Cervical Cytology.

We are a forward-looking department servicing a large population and would like to recruit dynamic and enthusiastic individuals who will contribute fully to the department, participating in other activities such as training of specialty trainees, teaching of medical students, clinical audit, research etc. thereby supporting the vision of the department. 

 

Main duties of the job

The post holders will be clinically responsible to the Clinical Leads for Cellular Pathology and would be expected to maintain their knowledge and ability through active continuing professional development activities including participation in relevant External Quality Assessment (EQA) schemes. These roles are essential for the integrated clinical pathology team to be able to deliver a high quality, adaptable and efficient service.

  • Possession of MBBS or equivalent medial qualification
  • Eligible for GMC Registration
  • Eligible for admission to the specialist register
  • Membership of relevant Royal College or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • A post graduate medical degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of macroscopic and microscopic pathology
  • Experience of dealing with complex specimens
  • Experience of multidisciplinary working
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team meetings and of complex clinicopathological case discussion
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of working practices in an NHS Cellular Pathology laboratory
