Job overview

This job offer an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to join a committed team of Consultants in this well- developed and expanding service, with close working relationship with the Radiology, Histopathology, Hepatology, Hepato-pancreatico biliary, and Colorectal surgery services.

Applicants will be expected to be experts in the assessment of patients with gastroenterology conditions and to deliver endoscopic interventions across OGD, Flexi Sig and Colonoscopy. Experience in more complex, therapeutic endoscopy is desirable and appointees will cover inpatient care, emergency endoscopy lists and participate in the Gastroenterology on-call rota for ward and GI bleeding (1 in 10).

Applicants for the post should have a CCT and GMC Specialist Registration with a license.

Main duties of the job

1. Clinical responsibilities – Undertaking endoscopy lists at Royal Free
(Hampstead) and Hadley Wood Hospital, and Gastroenterology clinics at Royal Free Hospital (Hampstead).
2. Responsibility for policy and service development – development of
Gastroenterology and Endoscopy service in line with the strategy of the Clinical Lead, Service Directors and Trust.

3. Responsibility for financial and physical resources (if appropriate)
4. Responsibility for leading and managing – gastroenterology team in association with consultant colleagues.
5. Responsibility for information resources – including patient databases and reporting endoscopy procedure outcomes.
6. Responsibility for teaching and training – supervision of gastroenterology registrars, undergraduate teaching, , clinical trainees and the multidisciplinary workforce.
7. Responsibility for research and audit – in line with Trust requirements.

Education & Professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Full GMC registration
  • • MRCP or equivalent
  • • CCT or interview within 6 months of CCT date
  • • MD or PhD

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Broad experience in general clinical gastroenterology
  • • JAG accreditation in gastroscopy and colonoscopy
  • • Training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students
Desirable criteria
  • • Experience in integrated care service development and delivery

Skills and aptitudes

  • Strong teaching skills and experience
  • Understanding of clinical governance and audit procedure
