Consultant in Lysosomal Storage Disorders and Cardiomyopathies in Systemic Diseases (CISD).

The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant with expertise in Lysosomal Storage Disorders (LSDs) and Cardiomyopathies in Systemic Diseases (CISD) to join the internationally recognised Lysosomal Storage Disorders Unit (LSDU).

This is a rare opportunity to work within one of the UK’s leading centres for rare metabolic disease, delivering unique, integrated, consultant‑led care for adults with LSDs and related cardiomyopathies.

We are seeking a clinician with a strong background in:

·         Lysosomal storage disorders and related rare cardiomyopathies

·         Cardiology, including expertise in CMR reporting

·         Delivering high‑quality patient‑centred care

·         An enthusiasm for advancing clinical services and research in rare diseases.

Main duties of the job

·         Lead in the care of adults with lysosomal storage disorders and related cardiomyopathies.

·         Contribute to specialist clinics, national and cross‑centre MDTs, and cardiac MRI (CMR) reporting.

·         Collaborate with expert teams across cardiology, genetics, nephrology, neurology, respiratory, orthopaedics, and other specialties.

·         Support research, audit, governance, teaching, and service development.

·         Help shape national pathways of care and contribute to guideline development.

Education

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • CCT or equivalent in general medicine or cardiology with a strong interest in lysosomal disorders or interview within 6 months of CCT date
Desirable criteria
  • MD or PhD
  • Outstanding research record

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad experience in general clinical medicine, cardiology and experience in lysosomal disorders
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in integrated care service development and delivery
  • Experience in reconfiguration of services or clinical innovation

Skills and aptitudes

  • Strong teaching skills and experience
  • Understanding of clinical governance and audit procedures
