Job overview

• Provide clinical and managerial leadership in the midwifery defined area or team
• Co-ordinate the team to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal services to
women within clinical area/geographical boundary
• Provide skilled clinical advice and professional leadership to the midwifery
team/defined area, liaising with the multidisciplinary team
•Working with line managers, act as a key player in leading change in practice,
providing high quality maternity care within the available resources
• Carry out risk assessments in the hospital, birth centres and community settings and
safely manage obstetric and neonatal emergencies including emergency situations
when medical help is not available.
• Lead on the management of sickness absence and team performance within own
area/defined team.
• Be responsible for leading cohesive working and communication practices amongst
own team and wider multi-disciplinary team.

 

Main duties of the job

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwife to join our senior midwifery team at the Royal Free London Trust  as a band 7 on the labour ward.

The successful candidate will be placed on the Royal Free site Hampstead Site.

The successful candidate will work as a senior midwife/ labour ward coordinator and act as the bleep holder in  the absence of the matron.

The post holder needs to be a clinically sound, experienced midwife with excellent communication skills to lead and support midwives to realise their full potential as autonomous practitioners placing women and their families at the centre of care planning.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a consultant led unit and environment where ‘normality in midwifery’ is the main focus (MLC) unit. Minimum introduction to IV cannulations, suturing, scrubbing in theatre, epidural top ups, resuscitation of new born.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience working as a midwife/Band 6. Previous experience working in a community setting.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to evaluate midwifery care.
  • Ability to relate NMC Midwives Rules, Code of Practice, The Scope of Professional Practice, Standards for the Administration of Medicines
  • Able to use appropriate language according to circumstances
  • Legible, literate, grammatically accurate

  • Have knowledge of the Public Health Agenda
