Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a newly qualified and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our adult acute in-patient Band 5 rotation based at NMUH which covers the following clinical areas:
Medical Specialities
Orthopaedic/surgery
Acute Medicine for Older people
Acute Stroke Unit
Admission Avoidance Team – covering Emergency Department and Acute Assessment wards.
You will be working as a member of an integrated OT/PT team and will receive regular supervision and CPD opportunities within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an OT who is a flexible, team player and who is able to contribute to excellent patient care within a fast moving acute environment. You will be responsible for assessment, treatment and discharge planning for a designated caseload for Adult acute inpatients. Ability to work with the MDT and across disciplines is important.
Working for our organisation
You will be joining the Acute Therapies based at North Middlesex Hospital and working as part of an integrated Therapy Team of Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
Acute Therapies is committed to ensure that staff feel supported with career progression through supervision, appraisal, internal/ external training and leadership development.
You will be expected to participate in seven day roster.

- BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
- Evidence of CPD portfolio
Clinical Experience
Essential criteria
- Undergraduate experience of working in a variety of healthcare settings
- Experience of OT assessment and intervention with patients in a physical acute, rehab and/or community setting (e.g., medical, surgical, orthopaedic or neurological patients across the lifespan).
- Knowledge of the occupational therapy process and application for clinical practice
- Knowledge of models of OT practice and practical application
- Knowledge and understanding of evidence-based practice.
Skills and aptitudes
Essential criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to actively contribute to, and work within an MDT.
- Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate.
- Ability to work at a moderate to high levels of physical activity including the involvement in manual therapy, therapeutic handling of patients and the assessment, demonstration, and provision/installation of specialist equipment and/or minor adaptations.
- Ability to work within Trust and Department guidelines and policies including equal opportunities and Health and Safety to meet the needs of the patients and colleagues.
- Competent IT skills
