Consultant Paediatrician w/ Specialist Interest in Paediatric Epilepsy

Consultant

Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant Paediatrician with a specialist interest in Paediatric Epilepsy to join our established and growing service.

This is an exciting and strategically important appointment. The successful candidate will work closely with our current Paediatric Epilepsy Lead Consultant, as part of a supported and structured transition, and take on the role of Lead Clinician for the Paediatric Epilepsy Service, in due course, guiding its continued development, quality improvement, and strategic vision.

We welcome applications from candidates with substantial experience in Paediatric Epilepsy who are passionate about service improvement, multidisciplinary collaboration, and who have strong leadership qualities with ambition to become a service lead. They should also have excellent communication and teaching skills and be committed to clinical governance, innovation, and high‑quality care.

This post offers a rare and exciting opportunity to step into a future leadership role within a well-established and valued service, with the support and resources needed to drive meaningful improvement for children and families affected by epilepsy.

We look forward to receiving your application and welcoming a dedicated, enthusiastic colleague to our team.

Main duties of the job

You will join a dynamic team of 20x Consultant Paediatricians, contributing to a balanced mix of inpatient, outpatient, and on‑call commitments.

  • Delivering specialist epilepsy clinics and supporting the care of children with a wide range of epilepsy presentations.
  • Working alongside the current lead consultant and preparing to assume full clinical and strategic leadership of the service in due course
  • Developing and expanding epilepsy pathways, improving multidisciplinary working, and strengthening patient experience.
  • Participating in the General Paediatric, Ambulatory, and Neonatal attending rotas.
  • Working closely with our Epilepsy CNS and wider MDT to support safe, effective, family‑centred care.
  • Leading and contributing to audit, guideline development, governance, and epilepsy‑specific quality improvement activity.
  • Providing teaching, supervision, and support to trainees and wider MDT.

Our service is supported by 1.40 WTE Consultant staffing (including this post) and 1x B7 Epilepsy Clinical Nurse Specialist. We offer a stimulating caseload, excellent multidisciplinary collaboration, and strong leadership support for service development.

Working for our organisation

North Mid is part of North Central London integrated care system – consisting of the NHS and Local authority organisations in Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. As with other ICS’s, we are working increasingly closely with partners and indeed many of our financial and performance objectives are measured at this system level. Whilst all organisations remain as standalone, statutory bodies we have an ICS infrastructure for making shared decisions and agreeing shared approaches.

We are proud of our staff and want to ensure their training allows them to provide excellent clinical care. We are also a training unit for medical students from UCL and St George’s University Grenada, and for nursing and midwifery students from Middlesex and City Universities.
