Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new band 5 Radiopharmacy Technician position to join the Radiopharmacy team (based in Nuclear Medicine) at the Royal Free Hospital, London.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated team member with excellent attention to detail and accuracy qualities, effective communication skills, a flexible approach and an ability to work under pressure.
This post will enable you to develop and utilise your skills within the speciality of Radiopharmacy.
Please note this vacancy is banded dependent upon the applicants experience relevant to this post. We are looking for candidates that meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on band 5. Applicants that meet the requirements for band 4 will also be considered.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be required to enable the delivery of a comprehensive, efficient and high quality clinical radiopharmacy service to the Trust and any external customers. The role includes the maintenance of the facility / equipment and aseptic manufacture and QC of a range of radiopharmaceuticals whilst complying with relevant statutory requirements including those related to GMP as defined in the MHRA Rules and Guidance for Pharmaceutical Manufacturer and Distributors. The post-holder should have a experience of aseptic manufacturing and/or working with radioactive materials.
Staff are required to work flexible hours as necessary for the service schedule. The normal hours of the department are currently 07:00 – 16:00, and staff work shifts to cover the service, with start times varying between 06:30-07:30. There may be occasions when duties have to be performed at weekends.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • BTEC in pharmaceutical sciences or NVQ level 3 in Pharmacy Services plus experience/specialist training equivalent to BTEC OR Science Manufacturing Technician -SMT Apprenticeship (Level 3 Diploma in the Principles of Aseptic Pharmaceuticals Processing OR • Diploma in Nuclear Medicine or Scientific degree or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Technician or Healthcare Professional Council (HCPC). OR • Post-graduate qualification (certificate/diploma/MSc) in Radiopharmacy or equivalent knowledge & expertise in the field. OR Registered Science Technician -RSsciTech
Aseptic manufacturing Experience
Essential criteria
- Post qualification experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing services experience working in Nuclear Medicine/ Radiopharmacy department or experience working in a laboratory environment involving the handling of radioactive materials
- Ability to dispense and/or manufacture pharmaceutical products accurately & aseptically without making errors
- Knowledge of Principles of radiopharmacy and quality control
Desirable criteria
- Ability to use initiative to solve problems and make decisions independently within own specialist area of competence.
- 1 years experience within another NHS organisation
- Principles of Good manufacturing practice, aseptic techniques, good clinical practice, quality assurance, infection control and radiation protection
- Working knowledge of how to operate and maintain isolator technology, clean rooms and dose calibrators.

Physical

- Physically able to participate in the preparation of radiopharmaceuticals with highly developed hand-eye coordination, moderate lifting (up to 15kg unaided) and standing for long periods in a restrictive position.
- Good general health, not claustrophobic.
- Standard keyboard skills
- Able to accurately weigh and measure materials for pharmaceutical preparations
- Manual dexterity

- Able to operate frequently at high concentration levels, especially calculating doses and technical information.
- Able to accurately perform complex calculations.

Weekend working may be required.
