Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Women’s Health at The Royal Free Trust for a Clinical / Research Fellow post for a period of 12 months.

The post is full-time with working hours between Monday-Friday 09:00-17:00 and would be suitable for Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainees at ST3+ level who wishes to gain experience in Gynae-Oncology clinical research. No on-call commitment is included in this post and the post-holder will not be included in the general obstetrics and gynaecology rota.

There are 3 pots, 1 each for NM, Royal Free and Barnet and Chase Farm sites.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will work under the supervision of Principal Investigators Miss Maria Memtsa (Royal Free site), Miss Katie Andersen (Barnet & Chase Farm site) and Miss Akila Karthikeyan (North Middlesex site) on the EASYCARE study, an NIHRfunded multicentre implementation study of the WID-EASY methylation test for endometrial cancer detection. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the study across the three sites along with a dedicated research nurse. This will involve close liaison with clinicians managing patients referred on an Urgent Suspected Cancer pathway.

Essential criteria
  • GMC registration
  • Medical degree (MB BS or equivalent)
  • MRCP
Desirable criteria
  • GCP certificate

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience working in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Clinical audit experience
Desirable criteria
  • Previous scanning experience
  • An understanding of research methodology and conduct of clinical trials.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues within and outside the Department of Gynaecology: this includes general liaison and also postgraduate teaching
  • Ability to organize and prioritise workload, to delegate responsibility as appropriate
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment & on own initiative
  • Good command of written and spoken English
