Job overview
The position is a fixed term contract for 12 months.
Applicants are invited to the post of Clinical Fellow (ST3+) in vascular surgery. The successful applicant will join the vascular surgery team. Work carried out by the clinical fellow (CF), will be at the equivalent level of SpR/ST3 and above. The CF will participate on the vascular surgery rota out of hours cover at the hub vascular unit based at the Royal Free Hospital. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will have the opportunity to rotate through other hospitals within the sector including The Royal Free site as well as University college Hospital.
Please note that the post is not recognised for training.
Main duties of the job
The post would be appropriate for an SpR / ST3 grade (or equivalent) doctor wishing to gain wide experience in all aspects of vascular surgery. It is anticipated that prospective applicants would be looking to consolidate their surgical experience prior to applying for an ST3 training number in vascular or general surgery. Overseas candidates at an equivalent level of training are welcome to apply.
General duties of the post holder:
- Ward rounds
- Outpatient clinics (typically 1-2 per week)
- Elective Surgery Sessions (1-2 per week)
- Exposure to training opportunities in the interventional radiological suite
- Supervising the work of the CT2/FY1 grade doctors
- Ensuring medical records are kept up to date
- Prospective cover for ward work and out of hours commitment of the SpRs/SCFs
The post-holder will actively participate in the submission of data to the National Vascular Registry and maintain in house data collection processes.
There is an expectation that the post-holder will teach under-graduate and post-graduate students.
