Job overview
National and Specialist CAMHS Outpatients (N&S OPD) are seeking to recruit a part-time Specialty Doctor in the SCAAND service to work for 2 sessions within a clinical research trial, SATURN (Stimulant medication for ADHD and Tics – Understanding Response versus Non-stimulants).
This project is a randomised trial that aims to understand whether stimulant or nonstimulant medication is most effective for treating children and young people who are experiencing both attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and tics.
This is an established post designed to provide clinical research capacity for the services participating in the SATURN trial in the London area. It is an exciting opportunity for a doctor interested in a career in psychiatry who wants to gain some experience in clinical research. This post has arisen as the previous post holder has been successful in obtaining a Clinical Academic Lectureship and continues to provide input into the trial.
The post is based at the Michael Rutter Centre on the Maudsley Site which facilitates close working and support for the postholder with other Consultant Psychiatrists and clinicians across National and Specialist CAMHS. The post holder will need to travel to other participating centres in the Southern hub on occasion to facilitate the participants’ initial visit in the research study.
This is a fixed-term contract until 31st May 2026, with the possibility of subsequent extension.
Main duties of the job
This is a new post established in order to provide additional clinical research capacity for the services participating in the SATURN trial in the London area.
It is an exciting opportunity for a doctor interested in a career in psychiatry who wants to gain some experience in clinical research while also supporting the teams in providing specialist care for children with ADHD and Tics.
Specific Responsibilities:
• The post holder will be responsible for conducting the trial procedures, specifically:
• explaining trial medications and the trial protocol, initiating, titrating, reviewing and overseeing medication during the trial, including follow-up appointments.
• They will also be responsible for overseeing prescriptions, physical monitoring and recording adverse events and liaising with the local clinical team to report and follow-up any safety issues.
• The post holder will work closely with a Research Support Officer (an Assistant Psychologist or Other Practitioner with research responsibilities), who will support the initial clinical assessments, study procedures and data collection.
• The post holder will need to travel to other participating centres in the Southern hub to facilitate the participants’ initial visit in the research study. They will subsequently lead clinical research visits in-person or remotely, based on the study protocol. Our current sites are within London, and Oxford.
