PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS JOB IS BASED IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES Maudsley Health, in conjunction with MACANI LLC, is excited to recruit the Clinical Director (Consultant Psychiatrist) to provide clinical leadership for the Intellectual Disability Clinical Academic Group at the new Maudsley Health Hospital in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The post holder will need to lead and support the implementation of a high quality, evidence-based service and ensure accreditation is achieved. The post holder will be expected to deliver effective, highly specialist assessments and treatments in accordance with UK and UAE guidance of professional regulatory bodies in conjunction with other members of the multidisciplinary team. The consultant will be directly involved in assessment and management, particularly of complex cases where there are psychiatric and other psycho-social factors. In addition to providing direct clinical care and service development, the role will include developing and delivering clinical, research and training services/programmes in accordance with clinical governance and relevant national and international policies. The reputation of Maudsley Health, MACANI, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust should be upheld and be enhanced due to the contribution of the post holder. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be involved in the shaping, implementation and development of new and innovative mental health services in the UAE. |
Main duties of the job
§ The post holder will play a lead role in providing clinical expertise and support, providing assessment, treatment and consultation for patients within their relevant Clinical Academic Group. § Lead and develop the Clinical Academic Group, working collaboratively with the Service Director. § Monitor the CAG’s KPIs and outcome measures and identifying the required corrective actions when necessary. § Participation in training of all doctors and other multidisciplinary staff within the teams and contribution to the identification and provision of training needs of the multidisciplinary team. § Contribute to education and training locally, nationally and regionally. § Participate in research as a principal, partner or facilitator as appropriate to the post holders experience and interests. § Active participation in operational management meetings together with other designated senior managers. § Adherence expected to agreed job plan and appraisal procedures set by the organisation. § Responsible for the development of job plans for staff under their line-management and their appraisal processes. § The post holder will be expected to support the development of the services in Abu Dhabi. This will involve working closely with the Managing Director, Medical Director, Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Operating Officer and potentially other providers in the Middle East. |
Working for our organisation
Following an international tender process by the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi, Maudsley Health successfully bid for a contract to deliver permanent inpatient care in Abu Dhabi. The Maudsley Team has significant local, on the ground, clinical experience but a new team of clinical and support staff will be required to deliver services at the new Maudsley Health Hospital. The MACANI founders have an impressive track record of spearheading the launch and development of new businesses, bringing international models of best practice to the UAE. SLaM is internationally recognized as one of the leading mental health institutions globally, it has a unique relationship with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neurosciences, part of Kings College, London. A Hospital has been acquired, is in the process of complete redesign, and will open during 2025. 138 beds are planned across 11 wards. All CAGs will have inpatient services, day care and outpatient services, specialist services and innovation will be encouraged in all CAGs as will internal and external training. The Hospital will be able to access support from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. The appointment in 2024 of an Academic Director will assist CAGs with embedding research and development of a training facility. |
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Other Elements of the Role Are to: § Ensure that electronic patients clinical records relating to post holders work are well maintained and meet standards for documentation and communication with referrers and users are met. § Promote good links with partner agencies including services across the UAE. . § Contribute to the development of policies and procedures to support good practice and ensure that appropriate high-quality and safe clinical services are delivered. § Provide a service that promotes diversity; meets the needs of service users from diverse ethnic, cultural and religious traditions, accessible and sensitive to needs relating to disability, gender and sexual orientation. § With the Service Director, collect activity information as requested to meet the demands of performance management and service planning. § Help maintain a clinical database and keep all other records and statistics as necessary and required. § Participate in meetings and other management meetings as appropriate to the post holders’ responsibilities § Apply quality standards to all work undertaken in line with Clinical Governance policies. § Act with integrity and honesty at all times. § Enhance the reputation of Maudsley Health, MACANI and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. § Attend professional meetings as appropriate within and outside the CAG. § Assist in or lead, and encourage others to be active in terms of research and evaluation where required. § Take part in and lead audit projects when appropriate. § Encourage junior staff and support their efforts in undertaking audit projects § Adherence to the agreed job plan and PDP and appraisal procedures. § Maintain GMC registration, or equivalent and Licence to Practice with the Department of Health. § Maintain good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent, in respect of CPD. § Maintain compliance with the Mandatory Training Register requirements. § Line-management responsibilities for staff. Post holder will have responsibility of monitoring job-plans, productivity, adherence to all policies, sick leave, managing cross cover arrangements for annual leave |
