Job overview

SLaM is migrating from our current EPR to a new system throughout 2026 and 2027. The EPR implementation forms an integral part of an innovative and exciting Clinical Transformation programme that will be enabled by a comprehensive digital experience, incorporating a wide range of EPR functionality required to deliver excellent patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the new EPR Programme to deliver a reliable dataset for migration to our new system. They will use excellent SQL skills to build and test datasets, and knowledge of ETL and warehouse design (Microsoft Azure environment), to contribute to a new data warehouse to hold Trust reporting.   They will work with technical colleagues within the EPR team, as well as colleagues in Transformation and Training to ensure data integrity and continuity for frontline clinical staff. They will be committed to data quality, principles of information governance and will be highly motivated to deliver accurate, valid and timely work.

Working for our organisation

This role is in the EPR which sits under the Digital Services Directorate. The Directorate utilises technology and digital solutions to empower our staff to work effectively and to improve the care our service users receive. The postholder will report to the Chief Clinical Information Officer and work closely with multidisciplinary project workstreams, Digital and external departments / teams across the Trust as directed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Build and test clinical datasets using SQL queries, views and stored procedures, to stakeholder requirements and detailed specifications.
  2. Developing and amending data models within the data warehouse which the mirror the business requirements of the organisation and then developing auditable data flows which populate them.
  3. Provide a high level of documentation which tracks build and test activities throughout the data migration, and warehouse build.
  4. Ensure accurate reporting flows from the Trust's data warehouse, in line with stakeholder requirements and Trust business needs.
  5. Work with clinical and operational stakeholders to understand clinical data usage, purpose and constraints, and the impact of poor data quality.
  6. Monitor typical errors or issues with clinical data capture throughout the migration period and lead on the development of data quality monitoring tools and techniques to support uptake of the new EPR.
  7. Work alongside business analysts, EPR configuration colleagues and clinical testers to develop functional test scenarios for data validation and user acceptance testing. Lead during testing period to document, investigate and resolve issues arising from testing.
  8. Presenting of highly complex information to a wide range of stakeholders. This includes dealing with complex ad hoc queries and prototyping dataset solutions..
  9. Supporting research and development by working with research colleagues on build and test of specialist datasets.
  10. The post holder will take part in meetings with the EPR supplier technical team, and present results of build and test activities

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of professional/managerial development
  • Extensive experience in developing queries, views and stored procedures in Microsoft SQL Server (SSIS/ SSRS/ SSAS / T-SQL)
  • Experience of formal data validation, working to testing plans and documentation of results.
  • Evidence of experience with ETL and understanding of warehouse design
  • Highly methodical approach, and attention to detail.
  • The facilitation of a stakeholder focussed culture within a team
  • Excellent written, verbal, and other media communications /Presentation skills
  • A logical and sensible approach to problem solving
  • Ability to organise and prioritise their workload, and be able to work under pressure
  • To analyse and apply user information to problem solving
  • Ability to express complex issues, both orally and in writing in an easily understood manner for a range of audiences
  • Negotiation, influencing and persuading skills
  • Pro-active and self-motivated in completing work to a high standard in conjunction with other staff
  • Excellent team skills and ability to work with members of own and other teams and departments at all levels of the organisation.

  • Higher post-graduate education in a relevant subject
