Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a CAMHS Practitioner to the Southwark CAMHS Early Help Team (a Tier 2 generic team.)
The post holder will be a care coordinator, assessing and treating children and young people in the team working in collaboration with the multiple disciplinary teams (MDT). The post holder will also be involved in supporting and advising parents and carers of C&YP referred to the service as well as offering consultation and advice to their professional networks.
The post holder will carry out initial mental health assessments and offer treatment according to their clinical and professional background and training. They will also carry out ADHD assessments following training.
It is important that the successful candidate has experience of working with children and young people with mental health difficulties. Experience working therapeutically with children and young people with Neurodevelopmental conditions is particularly desirable.
Main duties of the job
Participate as a multi-disciplinary team member in the setting and reviewing of therapeutic aims, objectives, standards and strategies to provide a high standard of care to clients and their families.
Assume responsibility for own case list and case management of children, adolescents and families who are determined to be at mild to moderate risk.
Undertake all duties in line with the professional Codes of Professional Conduct and maintain professional registration requirements for the post according to discipline/profession.
You will manage your own caseload and work within a team but will have freedom to act within the service framework and Trust operational policies.
Ensure that all recording and reporting of client contact are accurate, up to date, of good quality and within CAMHS and professional requirement standards of record keeping. To collect & collate information about individual clinical activity on ePJS
To link with other statutory and voluntary agencies and professionals as well as other CAMHS Teams in terms of referrals and joint work. Maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication with other professional agencies and departments, providing specialist advice and support where appropriate
Contribute to the effective functioning of the team and service through attendance at relevant meetings, taking responsibilities within the service as appropriate and negotiated with the line manager.

Southwark CAMHS employs a large number of child and adolescent mental-health staff. These come from a variety of disciplines including: child psychology, psychiatry, psychotherapy, family therapy, nursing and occupational therapy, art and drama psychotherapy. The service is organised as follows:

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will have responsibility for assuring the quality of clinical practice with specific reference to evidence-based treatments within the team. You will hold responsibility for ensuring that all team members participate in audit, evaluation and research in evidence-based treatments.
The post-holder will have a therapeutic caseload, offering therapy to children presenting with mild to moderate mental health and behavioural difficulties. You will also be working the parents/carers offering them support and guidance. You will have the ability to deliver a range of interventions for children and young people. You will undertake comprehensive mental health assessments and following training will also provide assessments for ADHD.
You will be responsible for ensuring that staff, within the team achieve, positive clinical outcomes for children, young people and their families and that these are evidenced by performance indicators such as activity data, targets and quality measures.
You will work in partnership with Children's Social Care, Education, Child Health, and Adult Services and other key partners to support integrated practice and service delivery.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Relevant professional registration with appropriate body. All applicants will require a professional training with professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC), General Social care council (GSCC), Health and Care Professional's Council (HCPC), Social Work England ( SWE), Association of Child Psychotherapists (ACP), BABCP or The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)
Desirable criteria
- Specialist training in modalities such as CBT, DBT
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of assessment, treatment and risk management of children, young people and families with a range of mental health and neuropsychiatric presentations
- Experience working with children & young people with emotional and/or behavioural difficulties
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working therapeutically with children and young people with Neurodevelopmental conditions.
- Experience of working within a CAMHS duty system.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the standardized assessments and evidence based treatments relevant to mental health and neuropsychiatric disorders.
- Well-developed IT skills
- Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations such as working with victims of abuse or trauma, or with children and young people who engage in self-harming or aggressive behaviour
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to child and adult protection, and equalities.
- Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning
