Job overview

This post is available for RMHN's, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers. 

The post holder will undertake screening , triage and in some cases full assessment of new referrals to the PCMHT. This will include urgent assessments of 17 year old or rising 18 year olds at crisis point and short and medium term care co-ordination.

The post holder will offer urgent assessment slots as part of the urgent care pathway.

The post holder will be a care coordinator, assessing and treating and advising and signposting a specific group of young people in the team working in collaboration with the multiple disciplinary teams (MDT).

The post holder will contribute to the shaping of this service together with various clinical services and young people and their families.

Main duties of the job

Participate as a multi-disciplinary team member in the assessment of children and young people referred via CAMHS, primary care and Slam services

Ensure that all recording and reporting of client contact are accurate, up to date, of good quality and within PCMHT and professional requirement standards of record keeping. To collect & collate information about individual clinical activity on ePJS

Work with the team and clients to maintain a safe therapeutic environment. Work to assure the quality of care through achieving high operational standards in clinical systems

To maintain and ensure good professional standards and attitudes towards the care and treatment of children, young people and their families

To link with other statutory and voluntary agencies and professionals as well as other CAMHS Teams in terms of referrals and joint work. Maintain good relationships and clear lines of communication with other professional agencies and departments, providing specialist advice and support where appropriate

Contribute to the effective functioning of the team and service through attendance at relevant meetings, taking responsibilities within the service as appropriate and negotiated with the line manager.

To have responsibility to ensure you achieve positive clinical outcomes for young people as they transition through the services and that these outcomes are evidenced by performance indicators such as activity data, targets and quality measures.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be a care coordinator responsible for assessing and treating a range of mental health and significant behavioural difficulties in young people whom are referred to the team.

You will carry out risk assessments with young people and their families routinely and work under the supervision of the team manager and senior clinical supervisor to manage these situations effectively.

You will work with other CAMHS practitioners in the service from all disciplines. You will be a member of a number of internal and external professional networks to ensure that care plans for individuals and services across agencies are co-ordinated efficiently and effectively.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • All applicants will require a professional training and relevant CAMHS experience in combination with professional registration with one of the following statutory bodies: the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC)
  • First level nursing qualification/registration RMN or RSCN or HV with related CAMHS experience.
  • Training in Clinical supervision. Further post qualifying training and education in working with children and adolescents with mental health problems. ENB 998 or mentorship and or equivalent experience and training (Nursing only)
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with therapeutic approaches commonly used in CAMHS or A&L PCMHT eg CBT, Family Therapy STEP 2 pathway
  • First level qualification in art, play, drama or music therapy with related experience in the psychological aspects of caring for children and adolescent with mental health problems/needs, developmental/ learning disability problems.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
  • Working knowledge of MHA, MCA and safeguarding children legislation
  • Prompt and accurate recording on to electronic notes system and an understanding of the need for this
  • Experience of the primary / secondary care interface
Desirable criteria
  • Prior experience of CAMHS duty

Knowledge/Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to information sharing and confidentiality
  • Working knowledge of EUPD, psychosis depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions
  • Understanding of and ability to maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
  • Ability to work in partnership with service users and carers in the planning and delivery of care
  • Ability to provide care that is sensitive to the needs of minority ethnic groups
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with therapeutic approaches commonly used in CAMHS eg CBT, Family Therapy
