Job overview

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 8a Mammography Educator for St George's National Breast Education Centre to join our friendly and well-established team. The post holder must be flexible,  organised, prepared to embrace educational  developments and to contribute to meetings, academic marking, lecturing and clinical training commitments in a professional manner commensurate with the role.

You will be dynamic, highly self-motivated and a role model to peers. The  Breast Education  team are friendly and highly skilled with a commitment to education and clinical training  to support continuing professional development for all staff working within the specialty of breast imaging across all disciplines.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is expected to manage the Training Centre activities on behalf of the Education Manager and Director of Training in their absence.  For the management element within the job, the emphasis will be on the needs of the organisation; planning activity and delivery; resource management including staff recruitment, development of courses and organization of all academic deliveries in collaboration with the Education Manager.  As Deputy Manager, the post holder is expected to develop, organize, market, deliver, assess and provide quality assurance of all curricula across the spectrum of training provided by the centre.  It is expected that the post holder will, where appropriate, support the CPD activities of the clinical team and the wider radiographic profession and promote and advance the interest of the South West London Breast Screening at a national level.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Radiography or equivalent
  • To hold or be working towards a Masters Postgraduate Qualification
  • HCPC registered
  • To hold or be working towards a Teaching Qualification in Healthcare
Desirable criteria
  • To hold a management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 5 years senior clinical experience with a clear understanding of evidence based practice.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working within a training environment.
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience including lecturing and marking of written assessments.
  • Experience with budgets
  • Experience of working in the NHSBSP
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in management skills

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Clearly spoken/articulate, being enthusiastic and diplomatic
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and solve problems.
  • Responsible approach and be able to use own initiative, with the ability to take control of situations where appropriate.

  • A thorough understanding of the Breast Screening Programme and professional standards

  • Ability to undertake audit and research.

Additional requirements

Essential criteria
  • A highly competent approach to mammography and educational techniques.
  • Ability to travel to national meetings and Breast Screening Units.
  • Capable of innovation for motivating, managing and promoting good team working with students, administrators, teaching and training staff.
  • Abilities commensurate with those required of a manager of a strategic business unit with an identified budget, activity contract
