Clinical Fellow in Neuro-Rehabilitation Medicine

NHS Medical & Dental: Junior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We are looking for two enthusiastic clinicians with a special interest in Rehabilitation, Neurology, Stroke, Trauma, to contribute to delivering the highest quality of patient care. The Neuro-Rehabilitation Department at St George's Hospital delivers complex, specialist rehabilitation to support our acute trauma, stroke, neurosurgical and tertiary neurology services, in South West London, as well as the local population. We work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, and Neuropsychology.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will be responsible for delivering care to the Level 1 Neuro Rehabilitation inpatients, and to the Rapid Access Acute Rehabilitation ward, both at St George’s Hospital. This may include acutely unwell patients, and responsibilities for coordinating care between different specialties.

Working for our organisation

St George’s Hospital is the main teaching hospital in the western sector of the South Thames, and as such has developed links with most district general hospitals throughout South Thames West, and supports a significant training programme for junior doctors who rotate through the Trust.

The Directorate of Neurosciences provides tertiary neuroscience care to a regional population of 3.5 million in South West London, Surrey and Sussex and some district neurology services to the local population.

The Trust is the largest provider of specialist neurorehabilitation services in London. This includes 50 inpatient beds on 2 sites, outpatient vocational rehabilitation following brain injury, a day case cognitive assessment programme and a comprehensive spasticity service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The JCF will take part in the day-to-day running of the Rehabilitation wards including patient assessment, physiological monitoring and initiation of acute interventions, liaison with Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery and Neurophysiology. The JCF will participate in the morning daily review of patients and multidisciplinary meetings with nursing and therapies.
