Main duties of the job

  • St. George’s Emergency Department is one of the largest in the country, seeing approximately 160, 000 patients a year.
  • The Trust is one of only four designated Major Trauma Centres in London, with a helipad providing direct access to the ED for the most seriously injured patients.
  • The Trust is also a hyper-acute stroke unit and a heart attack centre.
  • We are searching for highly motivated nurse with critical care or emergency nursing experience to join our friendly team of Emergency Care Nurses (ECN).
  • This innovative role was established in 2006 to work primarily in the highly equipped 8-bedded resuscitation area of the Emergency Department providing care and technical expertise to the most severely ill and injured adults and children.
  • The department is committed to supporting on-going professional development with strong links to academic programmes and a well-established work-based development programme.
  • You will supported in further development by the Practice Education Team and medical colleagues.
  • We are looking for nurses with a significant post-registration experience in ED / critical care and a strong interest in emergency and major trauma care. It is essential that you have a post registration specialist course and experience of local management skills within your current area.
  • We would welcome interest from people with a strong interest in teaching and research to support the on-going development of the role.

Working for our organisation

The Emergency Department employs over 130 nurses and prides itself on its team work, friendly working environment, flexible working opportunities and ongoing support and dedication to the health and well-being of its team.

You be one of the 11 Emergency Care Nurses within the team overseen by a  band 7 team leader - Beth. It is a well supported role with opportunities for ongoing professional development supported by our well established team of Practise Educators in ED.

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
