  • This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Haematology/Oncology nurse with a enthusiasm and specialist interest in Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), particularly with regards to training and service improvement.
  • You will play a major role in improving care and services within the day case & inpatient setting and work collaboratively with pharmacists, consultants, unit managers and lead SACT nurse to ensure excellence in patient care and service provision.
  • You will be responsible for education and development of the nursing staff throughout the Haematology & Oncology department and the wider trust on the safe delivery of SACT and promote a learning environment that ensures current evidence-based practice and optimal service delivery.
  • You will have a wealth of skills and knowledge in relation to all aspects of SACT including patient education, patient assessment, and administration of SACT and management of complications and will use this knowledge to deliver direct patient care, review and development of policies and procedures.

Main duties of the job

  • Expert clinical practice within cancer care
  • Responsible for the delivery of SACT Education (including to non-malignant nurses)
  • Involvement within service improvement projects
  • Research and audit
  • Act as a leader and role model 
  • Provide SACT administration on outlying wards with the trust
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner and effectively deliver an expert nursing service within the specialist area

Qualifications & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Minimum of five years post registration experience, of which 2 are within the speciality at band 6/7
  • Evidence of SACT course/UKONS competency
  • Teaching/Mentorship qualification
  • Qualified in venepuncture and cannulation
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent
  • Undertaken a recognised leadership programme
  • Ultrasound Cannulation

Expert Clinical Practice

Essential criteria
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload of self and others
  • Able to work autonomously
  • Able to present information to professional groups
  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues across health and social care settings

Education and Service Development

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the application of evidence based practice
  • Knowledge of local and national policy/guidelines relating to SACT
  • Participation in service development and implementation of change
  • Experience in teaching multidisciplinary groups
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of writing protocols/standards
  • Project management

Research and Audit

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of involvement in clinical audit
  • Able to analyse data and provide written reports
Desirable criteria
  • Research course
  • Evidence of published articles, posters, papers relevant to the field
