Maxillofacial Prosthetist

Band 7

Job overview

We’re looking for a Maxillofacial Prosthetist / Reconstructive Scientist to join our specialist team at St George’s Hospital.

This is a role where your work has real, visible impact. You’ll support patients through complex, often life-changing treatment - restoring function, appearance and confidence following trauma, cancer, congenital conditions and major surgery.

You’ll be part of a highly skilled, collaborative service, working closely with teams across:

  • Maxillofacial and Restorative Dentistry
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Head & Neck Oncology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Ophthalmology

You’ll be embedded within the clinical pathway, contributing your
expertise at every stage - from planning through to rehabilitation, as part of a multidisciplinary approach.

Main duties of the job

You’ll be involved in a broad and varied caseload across maxillofacial prosthetics and reconstructive science. While experience in the specialty is helpful, we’ll support your development with full local training.

Your work will include:

  • Designing and fabricating extra-oral prostheses (orbital, nasal, auricular and craniofacial)
  • Supporting intra-oral prosthetic rehabilitation
  • Using both traditional techniques and digital workflows, including CAD and 3D printing
  • Contributing to pre- and post-operative care and treatment planning

Depending on your experience, you may also be involved in areas such as orthognathic planning, trauma splints, implant-retained prostheses, obturation techniques and custom silicone or titanium implants.

As a Reconstructive Science STP host unit, we’re also keen to hear from candidates with an interest in teaching or supporting trainees.

Working for our organisation

You’ll be joining a supportive, forward-thinking team with exposure to complex and rewarding cases, strong CPD support, and opportunities to develop both your clinical and digital skills.

We’re looking for someone who brings curiosity, precision and a collaborative approach, and who genuinely cares about the difference this work makes to patients.

Informal visits are encouraged — we’d love to show you the service and introduce you to the team.

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
