Neurosciences Strategic Network Manager
Band 8c
Job overview
The South West London and Surrey Neuroscience Network (SWLSNN) brings together partners from across South West London and Surrey to drive clinically-led improvements in outcomes and quality of care across patient pathways, in patient experience, and in value for money.
The Network supports organisations, clinicians and patients by providing access to specialist resources and expertise, including objective analysis and advice on strategic change and co-commissioning.
The network is responsible for networked delivery of 4 nationally prescribed specialised services within the wider SW London and Surrey region:
Neurosurgery, Spinal Surgery, Neurology and Specialised Rehabilitation
Specialised commissioned activity for these 4 services is managed through the Neurosciences Directorate at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (part of St George’s Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Group).
It is recognised that there is an important interface between the SWLSNN and Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, Cancer Alliances, Major trauma and Paediatric networks. This will be facilitated as required through the SWLSNN in collaboration with relevant networks and commissioners.
Clinical leadership enables partnership working to achieve benefits, in particular reconfiguration of pathways through prioritisation of interventions which will result in significant savings, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have specific responsibility for the oversight and strategic planning of network deliverables across the 4 core specialised services the network is responsible for:
This includes ensuring compliance with the:
- National neurosurgery network specification
- National spinal services network specification
Overseeing and supporting the delivery of the following NHS England national specialised service specifications across the SW London and Surrey geography:
- Complex Spinal Surgery service specification
- Specialised Neurology service specification
- Neurosurgery service specification
- Specialised Rehabilitation service specification.
Working closely with the Network Clinical Leads, the Network board, and operational teams, the Strategic Network Manager will be a specialist resource to the SWLSNN to oversee and support delivery of the national specifications and to support cross-organisational working and service transformation. They will develop and deliver the strategic and operational plans to achieve stated objectives effectively and to time, ensuring that the necessary infrastructure and expertise is available to meet the needs of the agreed work plan.
Working for our organisation
St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).
After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
