Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join the Pharmacy department at St Georges University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Band 3 Senior Assistant Technical Officer. The successful candidate will support the smooth and efficient running of the Pharmacy Stores and Distribution service. This is a full time position (37.5 hours per week) and includes weekend and bank holiday working.

 The Pharmacy Department is highly regarded in the Trust and has over 270 staff members. The department is friendly, forward thinking and constantly expanding with opportunities for personal development.  Investment in facilities includes automated dispensing in our large main dispensary, which covers inpatient, outpatient and home delivery services. We have four satellite dispensaries, attached to specialist areas to promote efficient dispensing. Our dispensaries are led by experienced pharmacy technicians allowing clinical staff to focus on patient care, medicines optimisation and care group work. Automated dispensing cabinets are used in the Emergency Department and Major Trauma Ward, supporting automated pharmacy services on ward level. The aseptic unit holds of a “Specials” Manufacturing Authorisation (MS) licence by MHRA.

Main duties of the job

•    To support the smooth and efficient running of the Pharmacy Stores & Distribution service  (receipt, storage, assembly and distribution of medicines)

•    To assist in the training and induction of new staff including pre-registration Pharmacists and pre-registration trainee Pharmacy Technicians  

•    To participate in the Pharmacy topping up service to wards and departments within the Trust, including raising and assembling of orders on the Pharmacy computer system

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE in Maths, English and Science (Grade 4 / C or above)
  • General education qualifications
Desirable criteria
  • Further education qualifications
  • NVQ level 2 Pharmacy Services

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Work experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical environment, involving Pharmacy Stores & Distribution for a minimum of 1 year
  • Proven stock control experience & knowledge
  • Ward top up experience
  • Proven experience of staff training
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of participation in audit.
  • Experience of supervising staff and workload on a day-to-day basis

  • Ability to prioritise and organise routine daily tasks using own initiative
  • Able to communicate effectively with all healthcare professionals and colleagues
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
