Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for an Associate Lecturer to join the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust’s renowned education provision in applied research and practice of systems-psychodynamic approaches to organisational leadership and consultancy.  Specifically working on two of our flagship part-time programmes with national and international reputations:  the Masters in Consulting and leading in organisations and the Professional Doctorate in Consultation and the organisation, both validated by University of Essex.  

The post holder(s) will be involved in module leadership, teaching, practice and research supervision, personal tutoring and all aspects of course delivery and development within the portfolio.  Please see the Job Description & Person Specifications.

Applications are welcome for the role as a single post or as a split post.  As a single post, the applicant will have the knowledge and experience required to work flexibly across both the masters and doctoral level programmes.  As a split post, they will have the knowledge and experience suitable to one or other of the programmes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Appropriately qualified to teach the discipline at the required academic level (7 and/or 8)
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent (for D10/ED10); Doctorate level qualification (for D10D and/or the full post)
  • Qualification in consulting to organisations from a systems psychodynamic perspective
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development in areas such as pedagogy, group relations conferences
Desirable criteria
  • Advance HE/HEA Fellowship/PG Cert in Higher Education or equivalent or a commitment to applying for fellowship within one year
  • UK recognised qualification in Consultation or Coaching

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-qualifying experience in consulting to organisations from a systems psychodynamic perspective
  • Experience of teaching students in higher education
  • Experience of academic research and supervision, as required by the Trust and/or relevant validating body
  • Understanding of, and experience in professional practice of engaging with, questions of equity, equality, diversity, inclusion, disadvantage, discrimination etc.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of quality assurance, academic governance and the student experience
  • Track record of writing for publication

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal and ability to convey complex ideas in teaching and learning environments
  • Able to manage own time, and plan workload of administration team members effectively, to ensure completion of tasks
  • Proficiency in the use of a range of Microsoft Office tools to Intermediate levels including advanced keyboard skills

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Substantial knowledge and understanding and application of contemporary psychoanalytic and systemic approaches to organisations, leadership and to consultation
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of evidence-based approaches to consulting and leading in organisations
  • Knowledge of the infrastructure requirements for delivering postgraduate and/or professionally accredited programmes of study, including academic governance and quality assurance processes
  • Commitment and aptitude to explore opportunities for digital innovation in pedagogy and develop personal digital capabilities
Desirable criteria
  • Familiarity with the institutional procedures and processes surrounding doctoral progression and completion, e.g. research ethics approval, annual review of progress, examiner appointments
