Job overview

The Gynaecological Unit, led by Mr John Butler, at the Royal Marsden has a strong reputation for its multidisciplinary approach to the management of gynaecological malignancy. The gynaecology research team, led by Professor Banerjee, is world class developing, leading and delivering phase I-III clinical trials several of which have led to changes in clinical practice. The MDT comprises a team of surgical, clinical, and medical oncologists, radiologists and pathologists, supported by the CNS team. The Gynaecological Unit is a thriving department supporting our local network, and outside network referrals for primary and recurrent disease. The unit has a very strong and forward-thinking academic output and is involved in national and international collaborations in all disciplines. Dr Alexandra Taylor is an internationally recognised leader in radiotherapy for gynaecological cancer. This post involves working with Dr Taylor at the Chelsea site of the Royal Marsden Hospital. It will include gynaecology radiotherapy, brachytherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy and systemic therapies.

Main duties of the job

•    To contribute to the provision of a comprehensive, efficient, and high-quality evidence based clinical oncology service, under the supervision of covering Consultants.  
•    Supervision of ST1/2 trainees covering the oncology wards. 
•    To participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and departmental educational meetings. 
•    To participate in and develop multi-disciplinary comprehensive care and support for patients and their families. 
•    To always have regard to the clinical and quality standards set out in the NHS Cancer Plan, the Improving Outcomes reports and National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidance reports. 
•    To contribute to the clinical governance work undertaken in the Clinical Unit building on standards of best oncology practice. This will include participation in audit, CPD and other activities associated with Clinical and Research Governance as required by the Trust and/or by The Royal Colleges.

  • Full GMC Registration and licence to practice
  • MB BS, or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • FRCR 1/2
  • MRCP, or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad based knowledge of and understanding of oncology
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • It is anticipated that the appointee will have completed ST2 or equivalent in medicine
  • Experience in chemotherapy and radiotherapy
  • Experience in brachytherapy
Desirable criteria
  • Computer literacy /IT skills appropriate to a clinical service using computerised record systems and electronic prescribing system (VARIS)
