Job overview

This post of Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Fellow in paediatric oncology is suitable for Haematology or Paediatric Oncology trainees wishing to gain further experience in BMT. It will be suitable for those wishing to pursue a career in Tertiary Paediatric Oncology, or Haematology.

Main duties of the job

The Unit has approximately 240 new malignant registrations per year, including children with 
leukaemia, central nervous system and extra cranial tumours. Children are referred from south of 
the Thames, Kent and the south coast, although for early phase studies patients are referred from all 
around the UK via defined referral networks, with a third of patients recruited to paediatric early 
phase studies coming from out of region. Every week there are outpatient clinics in haematooncology, solid tumours, neuro-oncology, stem cell transplantation (SCT), late effects, phase I/II 
clinical trials and symptom care

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for registration with the GMC
  • MB BS (or equivalent)
  • MRCPCH or equivalent See accompanying note: “Equivalent Qualifications”
Desirable criteria
  • Other degrees eg BSc, BA or equivalent honours degree

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in Paediatric oncology or Haematology
  • Overseas posts must be recognised training posts in country of origin as vetted by the Higher Specialist Training Office at the RCPCH – evidence to be submitted with application form.
  • Overseas trainees need to have written references that their jobs are thus approved by the nationaltraining programme / college
