We are looking for a dedicated Biomedical Scientist with a strong understanding of digital pathology systems and their integration with related platforms, to join the Division of Neuropathology. In this role, you will support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of digital pathology systems, ensuring a seamless transition from traditional histopathology workflows to state-of-the-art digital imaging platform.

The postholder will closely collaborate with laboratory, clinical and technical teams, to ensure the effective, safe, and compliant delivery of digital pathology services in alignment with clinical and regulatory requirements.

In this role, you will play a vital part in revolutionising patient care through cutting-edge technology. By driving digital transformation, you’ll enable faster diagnoses, improve collaboration, and help shape the future of pathology services.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The successful candidate will:

-       Support the implementation and maintenance of digital pathology systems (e.g. slide scanning, troubleshooting, digital file management).

-       Act as a central liaison between the pathology laboratory, IT services, system suppliers, and clinical users.

-       Facilitate system integration with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), PACS, Electronic Patient Records (EPR), Staining and Tissue Tracking Systems.

-       Deliver user training, troubleshoot system issues, writing of SOPs, and provide day-to-day support for digital pathology services.

-       Contribute to quality assurance processes and ensure robust documentation and service continuity.

Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Degree in Biomedical Science, IT, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Eligibility for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is desirable
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

  • Knowledge of Vendor relationship or training in digital pathology platforms
  • Project management or ITIL certification (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile, ITIL Foundation)

Experience

  • Previous experience in operating and maintaining digital pathology systems or IT platforms in a healthcare setting
  • Familiarity with SECTRA or similar whole slide imaging platform
  • Experience in troubleshooting technical issues and liaising with IT teams and industry representatives
  • Understanding of NHS policies, data protection regulations, and information governance standards.
  • Knowledge of digital pathology workflows and their integration into laboratory operations
  • Experience of working in an ISO15189 accredited laboratory
