Job overview

Are you a healthcare professional with an interest in developing as a digital clinical informatics safety specialist?  We have an exciting opportunity to join our digital safety team.

The Digital Clinical Informatics Safety Specialist will be responsible for supporting the Digital Clinical Safety Lead for Digital Healthcare to ensure that our digital clinical systems are safe and being used safely to improve patient care and outcomes.  They will provide leadership, visibility and expert support to the digital clinical safety work in the organisation. 

The post is part-time (22.5 hours) and fixed term until 31 August 2030.  We would consider applications for flexible and hybrid working.

 

Main duties of the job

This exciting role combines elements of patient safety, risk management, clinical informatics and digital systems safety.  The main duties of the role are to:
-    Ensure compliance with the legislation and requirements for digital clinical systems
-    Support the delivery of the Trust digital safety priorities and improvement plans
-    Contribute to electronic health record and other digital systems related patient safety and risk management activities

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Clinical Graduate and postgraduate level competence or equivalent higher education qualification or equivalent experience in patient safety
  • • NHS Digital Clinical Safety Practitioner certified
  • • Working in a large and complex organisation (circa 5,000) staff multi-disciplinary teams

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Experience in a Patient or Clinical Safety Management Role within a large organisation
  • • Proven ability to deliver to tight deadlines
  • • Proven ability to analyse a broad range of management/ clinical information and identify recommendation actions
  • • Experience of investigating complex and challenging patient safety or clinical incidents
  • • Experience of performing safety assessments and risk analysis and developing action plans
  • • Leading and/or organising multidisciplinary teams
  • • Analysis of complex data and presentation of this data and reports across the organisation.
Desirable criteria
  • • Technical knowledge of application lifecycles and techniques

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • • Excellent coordination, organisational and negotiation abilities
  • • Effective written and verbal communication skills including report writing skills.
  • • Ability to create and deliver complex presentations to both digital healthcare and clinical staff, often in large, multi-disciplinary groups
  • • Ability to work effectively with staff at all levels across the organisation
  • • Understanding of NHS Patient Safety and Digital policies / agenda
  • • Ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision.
  • • Ability to work under pressure dealing with changing & sometimes conflicting priorities
  • • The ability to lead meetings, prioritise tasks and resolve conflicts
Desirable criteria
  • • Understanding of complex health IT systems
  • • Understanding of the NHS Patient Safety Incident Response Framework and ability to apply it
