We have a unique, fixed term opportunity to join the Women’s Health Division at University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
This is a new fixed term General Manager position working alongside the existing General Manager across Breast and Gynaecology services to establish 1 WTE Breast and Gynaecology General Manager and 1 WTE Gynaecology General Manager. The exact service portfolio will be agreed depending on the skills and experience of the new and existing appointee to provide senior leadership across the division. The position is funded until March 2026.
We are looking for a dynamic leader, who is passionate about quality, patient-centred care and improving services. The successful candidate must be committed and collaborative who is able to lead the operational delivery of services and drive service innovations and transformation, delivery against national RTT and CWT targets and ensuring an outstanding service for our patients.
Main duties of the job
Reporting to the Divisional Manager, the General Manager is responsible for the operational management of the Gynaecology, Gynae-oncology and/or Breast services, and the delivery of performance targets including finance, activity and workforce, and others as applicable; this includes accountability for cancer and referral to treatment waiting times standards.
The General Manager is also a key stakeholder in the Gynae-oncology and Breast NCL Clinical Networks, collaborating with the Cancer Alliance and counterparts in acute trusts to achieve service transformation for cancer services.

Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • High standard of written and spoken English
- • Management degree or equivalent (or in exceptional circumstances – able to demonstrate significant level of equivalent experience)
- A formal post graduate qualification, ideally in management or equivalent senior level experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Minimum of 3 years relevant management experience, with a least two years within the NHS
- • Experience of service redesign and development
- • Experience of effective management of budget
- A proven success in business planning and in the development and effective implementation of strategic plans
- A proven record of success in managing operational change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality
- Experience of leading and supervising a team
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- • Demonstrate a strong understanding of multidisciplinary working
- • Excellent communication skills, including negotiation, with the proven ability to liaise effectively within a multidisciplinary team based environment and with internal and external stakeholders
- • Detailed knowledge and understanding of NHS targets and other topical NHS issues
- • A sound understanding of the issues affecting operational staff and a can do attitude to solving such issues
- • Project management skills
- • IT literate: proficient in the use of word processing and spreadsheet packages
