Job overview
The Head & Neck Department at University College Hospital is looking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated clinical fellow to work in ENT oncology – working closely with OMFS Head and Neck colleagues within the Head & Neck Cancer service at UCLH. The appointee will join the specialist H&N oncology MDT and will be primarily based in outpatients. The candidate will support clinics and offer expertise in urgent and ‘2 week wait’ referrals whilst providing guidance and support for junior colleagues. The candidate will assist the MDT chairman and senior fellow with the MDT meeting referrals triaging and outcomes recording.
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to take a lead role with outpatient intervention and diagnostic biopsies under local anaesthetic in our dedicated procedure zone at The Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital.
Further opportunities to attend main theatres and support the consultant team will be offered.
Main duties of the job
This post is based predominantly in the outpatient setting, supporting ENT H&N clinics in the Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic and The MacMillan Cancer Centre.
· There are regular clinics at which the Registrar will have the opportunity to see new patients as well as patients recently discharged from the ward.
· There will be opportunities to observe and assist and operate in theatre as directed by the consultant.
· H&N admissions may arise from clinics and the Registrar will be expected to liaise closely with the full range of multi-disciplinary teams involved in their care.
· Attendance and support for the weekly multi-disciplinary team meeting will be a requirement of the role.
· The Registrar will also be expected to take part in and present audit and research projects.
· The Registrar will also be expected to take part in teaching other staff, and undergraduate and postgraduate students.
· The Registrar will have a primary role in the outpatient care of new and recently diagnosed H&N cancer patients and also those patients referred for suspected cancer in whom an alternative diagnosis is established.
· The Registrar will write clear notes, order appropriate investigations and work closely with MDT coordinators and the wider MDT in the assessment and diagnosis of ‘fast track’ suspected H&N cancer referrals.
· The registrar will provide comprehensive physical assessments, including flexible nasendoscopy in the outpatient setting.
