Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 3-6-month fixed term Clinical Fellow post at UCLH to support our highly specialist tropical medicine and parasitology national service with service improvement projects, while contributing to the outpatient infectious diseases and tropical medicine clinics at HTD..

The duration of the appointment will depend on start date due to funding constraints.

The candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team that deliver local and national services for the specialist management of the febrile returned traveller and patients under investigation or management of other exotic infections

The post is primarily to support improvements to the national service  through network activities linking the tropical centres with specialist regional ID centres and with UKHSA Imported Fever Service. Examples of projects include  implementing new point of care diagnostics for dengue and sharing best practice with other units, developing new molecular assays for trypanosomiasis, development work towards clinical databases for patients with echinococcus and for patients with dengue, helping to organise national meetings around management of dengue, rabies, etc.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Fellow will be expected to

1)    Lead on 2-3 projects under the supervision of one or more Infection consultants

2)    Participate in regular HTD outpatient clinics

3)  Attend clinical and educational meetings associated with the HTD outpatient service.

4)    Contribute to the delivery of Infection teaching and training to undergraduates at UCLH

The post is not associated with any on-call commitments but there may be opportunities (via UCLH bank) to contribute to any rota gaps on ID or research trial cover rotas

The particular projects that the fellow would pick up will depend on their previous experience, and what projects are feasible and timely within the timeframe of the position.

The fellow would be expected to contribute one day a week  to a regular outpatient clinic, and would be able to attend all clinical and educational meetings within the department.  A key part of the role may include engagement with the UKHSA Imported Fever Service through colleagues with joint appointments.
