Job overview

UCLH, one of London’s key cancer centres, is seeking to recruit a Clinical Trials Coordinator on a 12-month fixed-term contract to support a growing number of cancer clinical trials. The successful candidate will be based within the Cancer Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU) based in 250 Euston Road.

The Clinical Trial Coordinator role is important within CCTU.  Working alongside other research disciplines the post holder will take responsibility for the screening, recruiting, consenting and coordination of study visits for patients on non-interventional trials.  

This is a patient facing role and good communication skills are needed when explaining research concepts to patients and their families. The post holder will be expected to develop specialized skills and knowledge relating to the conduct of clinical trials, the therapies and the relevant disease sites. The post holder will be expected to have sufficient skills to enable patients to make informed choices concerning their involvement in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patient’s advocate. 

We are seeking someone with experience of a healthcare setting, knowledge of good clinical practice, good verbal and written communication and attention to detail.  However we offer a comprehensive training programme so if you meet some of these criteria, and have a clear desire to do the job, and then please apply.  

Main duties of the job

•    Be first point of contact for patients and also responsible for supporting patients through their clinical journey (i.e. appointment reminders and all associated admin)
•    Responsible for disseminating trial related information to patients and obtaining their informed  consent 
•    Responsible for booking all appointments and procedures and ensuring that this is communicated effectively with patients and relevant clinical services
•    Responsible for ensuring that all administrative processes and procedures associated with clinical trials are followed according to protocols
•    To ensure the safety and well-being of study participants is the primary concern of the study.
•    To ensure that the approved study protocol is followed at all times.
•    Support the screening and recruitment of participants into the study, including attendance to MDTs to identify suitable potential patients for trials
•    Act as a resource to research participants, their families and staff on the study.
•    Work within the multidisciplinary study team, and develop and maintain an understanding of the disease processes relevant to the study.
•    Develop and maintain clinical skills relevant to the study, specifically phlebotomy.
•    Collect and ensure the appropriate storage and transfer of biological samples as per the study protocol.

Knowledge & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Life Science or Nursing degree
  • Knowledge of clinical trials/observational studies
  • Knowledge of ICH GCP
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of oncology and/or haematology

Experience
