Job overview

Our NICU is the Level 3 unit for the North Central London area which provides specialist intensive care for critically ill babies. We also have close links with an on-site fetal medicine unit which is a regional, national and international referral centre for fetal medicine, caring for more than 7,000 patients each year. In addition, they have an internationally recognised multidisciplinary team (MDT) who offers individualised care for pregnant women and their families, when there is a concern for the health of an unborn baby. We hence can provide a wealth and varied unique range of experience.
If you would like to develop your career in Neonatal Nursing this is an ideal time to come and join us.

You will gain valuable skills and experience being fully supported by a Practice Development team. There are an extensive range of opportunities for you to further your career for progression, including complex deliveries, exposure to babies requiring ITU care, involvement in governance, quality improvement projects, research, surgical secondments and management development opportunity including taking charge of Special Care and Transitional Care.  You will have the opportunity to support students and nurses undergoing their qualified in specialty course, and engage with a wide MDT to support families, promote family integrated care, and provide high quality care.

Main duties of the job

We have a busy tertiary level three neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) with close links to the other UCLH specialist hospitals and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Currently we care for 21 intensive / high dependency care babies, 11 special care babies and 12 transitional care cots.

As a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse you should hold a neonatal qualification.  We offer an excellent opportunity to consolidate your experience in our busy unit. You will be able to enhance your ITU skills and develop and progress to managing the special care and transitional care areas. You should ideally possess a recognised teaching qualification and demonstrate the ability for and commitment to continue your ongoing development.

You will maintain high standards of care throughout, communicate with the MDT, check and administer drugs according to guidelines, and support and foster safe practice on the neonatal unit.

Wanting to learn, a passion for neonatal nursing and attention to detail are essential for this role.
