An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced band 6 Nurse to work at the Lighthouse, part of Paediatric and Adolescent Services at University College Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The role has become available on a fixed-term basis to allow the service to increase capacity in order to meet demand. It would be an ideal secondment opportunity for a candidate interested in development in the area of safeguarding and sexual abuse.

Main duties of the job

To be a key member of the children’s and young people’s multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively with colleagues to support the development of the Lighthouse (Child House)

Work in partnership with external agencies to ensure the safety of children and young people by appropriate sharing of information and attending or supporting the attendance at relevant meetings
-
Use evidence based advanced knowledge, leadership and decision-making skills to deliver personalised therapeutic and holistic interventions for CYP who have experienced sexual abuse.

To ensure a seamless patient pathway of care is provided when undertaking complex activities and interventions for CYP who have experienced sexual abuse

To deliver clinical care working with the consultant team and with support from members of the multidisciplinary team

Work as part of the Multi Agency Team to ensure that the views of CYP are able to influence the development of practice within Child House

The post holder will promote the concept of clinical governance and facilitate the implementation of the UCLH Nursing & Midwifery strategy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Work collaboratively with the Lighthouse team to support and develop the success of the service and meet the outcomes set by NHS England. · To monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others in own work area through ensuring own and others knowledge of appropriate national/local policies and procedures, and that these are adhered to. · To maintain own and others knowledge of appropriate NMC standards and trust professional guidelines and that these are applied to practice. · To act as a role model in promoting peoples equality, diversity and rights through ensuring that own and others practice is in the best interests of users. · Provide patient information through media available to the patient e.g. face to face, text, telephone, and website, e-mails, written information. · Work in partnership with the named paediatricians and other multi-disciplinary teams to address health needs for patients and their families through planning and delivering interventions which are based on best practice and clinical judgment and ensure these standards are monitored via an established audit cycle and quality improvement · To support patients in delivery of care through maintaining the patients’ information needs, promoting their best wishes and beliefs and addressing their concerns. · Support patients and their families to manage their own health and wellbeing through provision of expert information, advice and support. · To monitor and review the effectiveness of interventions with the patient and colleagues and modify this to meet changing needs and established goals of care · Provide a culture that supports the management of the ongoing consequences of treatment

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RN (child) / RGN with extensive experience in paediatric and / or adolescent care
- 1st level registration with NMC
- Degree level education or on program to complete degree
Desirable criteria
- Leadership / management development programme
- Diploma or equivalent in sexual health or family planning
- Diploma or equivalent in counselling skills
- Paediatric Immunisation Course
- • Teaching experience
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant post registration experience
- Substantial experience or interest at Band 5/6 including working in either: o General paediatrics o Sexual Health o CYP Safeguarding o Adolescent care
- Experience of working within complex sexual health / emotional health / counselling environment
- Sound IT skills and ability to maintain and create existing spread sheets / databases
Desirable criteria
- Experience of participation in service improvement initiatives
- Experience of health and safety issues pertaining to clinical practice
