The Children and Young People’s Department are looking to recruit an associate specialist in general paediatrics from February 2026 on a fixed term contract of 1 year. There is opportunity for additional specialty work depending on your interest and you will be supported to reach your potential.  

Applicants must have at least two years’ experience working at ST4+ level in NHS paediatric care. 

The post will provide continuity of care on the acute paediatric ward and Emergency Department with opportunity for the development of a special interest if desired.

Main duties of the job

The post is based in general paediatrics encompassing PED, inpatients and outpatient clinics. The post is from 8.30am to 5pm for 4 days a week between Monday and Friday. This post does not include out of hours work or on calls but successful candidates are encouraged to sign up to the hospital bank if desired to help fill occasional out of hours locum work (long days and/or weekends). Outpatient experience is included in this post that could encompass either general and rapid referral clinics or depending on the candidate’s interests.

The post holder will work under the direction of the Consultants in general paediatrics and be directly responsible to the Clinical Director. We would particularly value applicants with a holistic, team-working perspective who is driven to work in a high performing team and strives to continually improve care. The postholder will demonstrate the ability to meet UCLH’s Trust values, having a can-do approach to working with colleagues and being able to see patients as people. They will exhibit leadership skills and have a commitment to clinical governance and ensuring top quality patient care. You will also contribute to multidisciplinary discussions, ensuring safe and effective treatment planning, and be actively involved in audit, education and quality improvement projects.
