Applications are invited for a permanent Specialty Doctor post in Special Care Dentistry at the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals, part of the Specialist Hospitals Board of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The post sits within the Dental Medicine Department, which comprises Special Care Dentistry, Oral Medicine and Facial Pain. The Special Care Dental team delivers both outpatient and day stay care in all aspects of dental care for a complex cohort of patients. It is going through an exciting period of growth to meet the demands of the increasing population to which it serves.
Main duties of the job
This post is for a specialty doctor in Special care dentistry to deliver dental care for patients referred for dental treatment to Special Care dental services. To help us achieve this with the highest standards of innovation and excellence in front-of-house clinical care, we are looking for an enthusiastic specialist who is looking to expand their skills in provision of care for this patient group. So if you are passionate about working in secondary care Special Care Dentistry department then we would love to hear from you.
Successful applicants will join an established team, working closely with Consultants in Special Care Dentistry and providing a wide range of dental care. Applicants will be expected to have excellent communication skills, and be able to build effective working relationships at all levels
Applicants must have full current GDC registration.

Knowledge and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Full registration with the General Dental Council of the UK (GDC) at the time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
- • MFDS, MJDF or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- • Postgraduate qualification in Special Care Dentistry
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Minimum of 3 years of postgraduate general dental clinical experience
- • Minimum of 2 years of postgraduate experience in special care dentistry (this could be part of training posts)
- • Experience of surgical dentistry
- • Experience in sedation
- • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- • Effective application of evidence-based practice in clinical management of special care dentistry patients
- • Ability to use IT and standard Microsoft packages
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals
