Job overview

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Research Practitioner/ Research Nurse to join the Stroke Research Centre is available at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This role will support research delivery to all clinical studies on the portfolio in line with the aims of the National Institute for Health Research and the North London Research Delivery Network.  

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work closely with the Lead Research Practitioner and the Academic Research Lead to ensure successful research delivery to the stroke portfolio.

The post-holder will be responsible for identification and enrolment of eligible patients onto clinical trials from the Emergency Stroke Unit and the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The post-holder will be expected to register / randomise patients onto study protocols and to prepare and administer investigational medicinal products as per trial protocol. The post holder will be responsible to ensure clinical trials are run in accordance with ICH-GCP, research protocols, Trust policies, local SOPs and all other regulatory standards.

Experience of working in a clinical research environment is essential for the role; ideally, the post-holder will have experience in a stroke environment. Nursing registration would be an advantage. The post-holder will need to demonstrate ability to work in a fast-paced environment and willingness to work flexibly and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research environment.

Person specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Science Graduate, Registered Nurse or Allied Healthcare Professional e.g. Physio, OT, SLT, Clinical Psychologist
  • Registration on the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Clinical Research Practitioner Accredited Register, or working towards this
  • Adequate post registration / qualification experience
  • Specialist knowledge in a stroke setting or in the implementation and conduct of randomised trials.
  • In date ICH GCP certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-registration nursing / CRP experience
  • Clinical research delivery experience
  • Experience in delivering evidence-based practice
  • Experience of formal / informal teaching of patients and staff
  • Experience of phlebotomy and cannulation

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Proven knowledge of ICH GCP guidelines
  • Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit / quality
  • Computer literacy
